SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A would-be car thief fired several shots at the car owner while trying to steal his Kia Sportage, said Akron police.
This happened around 3:20 a.m. on Sunday in the 600 block of Chittenden St.
The 40-year-old car owner told police he walked outside to confront the unknown suspect and that is when the suspect pulled out a rifle and fired multiple shots in his direction.
The car owner then returned fire and the suspect fled on foot.
Akron police said the car owner was not injured, but his home and a neighbor’s home were struck by gunfire.
According to Akron police, over a dozen rifle caliber and other casings from the scene.
The car owner also told police this was the second attempt to steal his vehicle.
