WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A man is dead after he was shot by a resident when breaking into his West Chester apartment, West Chester police said.

Police said officers responded to an apartment complex at 7560 Shawnee Lane early Sunday morning.

After investigating, officers found that a man who lived in one of the apartments heard noises on his balcony, and he found and shot a man who had broken into his home.

The intruder, who has not been identified, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said he later died due to his injuries.

The shooting is still under investigation, and the resident is being cooperative, police said.

I vaguely know the area. Not forever ago it was all farm land. Burglars there likely only broke into empty residences then.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

There's been a lot of encroachment and expansion of individual residences and apartments and businesses in what used to be farmland.
In the Dayton area, a Sheetz gas station wants to build a mega gas station and truck stop and the residents there are fighting back.
My area is farmland and the real estate developers are constantly trying to get approval and variances to build out here but the township, composed of farmers, say in order to build a new home out here you must have at least 20 acres.

Since I moved out here I've only had one burglary attempt, right after the home was first built, in the dead of winter at 3am. The guy ran to a waiting car about a hundred yards from the house and it drove off, so they might have been city people. He slipped in the snow halfway to the car as he was trying to run through the thick snow. :) We've not any more attempts. We and a few of my neighbors had a few odd things stolen that were left outside but those thieves turned out to be 4 legged, not two. It was a minor crime wave in the middle of the night until the thieves and their stash of stolen goods were discovered on a neighbors farm.

In my case it was some left over vinyl siding pieces, and bamboo tiki torches. One torch would come up missing each night. I was working 2nd shift and had to work over a little bit, so I didn't get home until 1 am. I stopped at the last stop light before I turned and went to the new house, and saw a raccoon dragging the last tiki torch off into the woods, so that's how I found out it was raccoons. The next shift I told a worker and who lived down the street from me. He thought it was funny, until it started happening to them. They lost an outdoor extension extension cord, a hand saw, a rake, a outdoor light, one of those things you draw angles on wood with, a folding camp type chair, insulation sheeting, plastic tarps, and other items, all lightweight stuff, all happening in the middle of the night. I don't recall exactly what all of their stuff was that was taken, it was in the late 90's, I mostly remember what they took from me. They were able to eventually track down where the raccoons were piling the stuff. My stuff was there along with theirs, and some other stuff that IDK where they got it from. (other neighbors?) I have no idea what they were planning on doing with any of it.
