The .30 Super Carry caliber..

I started a discussion about this on the OFCC Facebook page, so it's only fair to bug people here as well.

The .30 SC may well be the worst new handgun caliber introduction ever. Okay, at least for several years. By comparison, both the .357 SIG and .45 GAP got adopted by a few LE outfits here in the U.S. And, at least a measurable number of non-LE folks bought some of either or both.

I asked employees I know at Vance Outdoors in both Lebanon and Springdale about sales of the .30 Super Carry. Responses were friendly eye rolls and head shakes.

Anybody here taken the plunge? "Bueller? Bueller?" If so, tell me what you think.

Those of you that haven't, feel free to weigh in as well.

Ryan Cleckner at Gun University sure doesn't care for it.

Thanks for humoring me Mike. Time was, thread like this would have generated a metric poop ton of conversation back in the board's heyday.

No humoring involved. I, too, am somewhat surprised at the lack of interest.

Most caliber discussions are more heat than light. There's value in the stopping statistics of different calibers that people like Greg Ellifritz have compiled, and beyond that thinking of changing my EDC caliber and all the logistics that implies just makes my head hurt.

It appears from what I've read is the main advantage of the caliber is simply being able to stuff a couple more rounds in a magazine than 9mm. As for myself on a fixed budget, and consider the ability to afford to practice with whatever someone is carrying is more important than whatever caliber it is.
If you can't get the ammo or it's way higher priced than the older (and proven in real life shooting incidents) calibers it's expensive to practice regularly with it.

I've considered picking one up since they're so cheap right now. A Shield EZ with something less than highest pressure ammo might be an ok grandma gun.
