self defense claim in shooting in Houston Tx, has video

Although it sounds like the guy who did the shooting is gay, the alleged motive for the attack was to steal a camera. It is however alleged that the alleged suspects used slurs, but the story doesn't say what those slurs were.

The shooter did leave the scene with his partner but is claiming that they were still being pursued by the other people with the person that was shot.
Even if true, it probably would've been better to call 911 from the car at least while they were leaving. It's unknown if they met with their attorney before turning themselves in or not.
