Depending on the exact circumstances, they may not be able to restrict lawful carry at the event. If it is a public space without restricted access, I do not believe they can.

Kinda' moot point now. I saw that A##hat, he has a habit of making up "facts" or embellishing his so-called reporting.
Looking at the official RW&B page there is no mention of firearms.

What I read was that CPD “has asked that you leave your guns at home.”
