The document clearly shows the White House and DOJ adopting the structure of the Manchin-Toomey gun control bill as a guide: “Consistent with the Manchin-Toomey-draft legislation, a background check requirement would be extended to all commercial sales, including sales at gun shows.”

The document shows the Manchin-Toomey background checks–i.e., universal background checks–would include issuance of a “bill of sale” and the preservation of a “chain of title.” Sellers would have the option of preserving record of the sale or allowing a Federal Firearm License holder to record the sale.

After posting the gun control document, Eliana Plott received an update from the White House that said WH legislative director Eric Ueland’s promoting the gun control document is not an indicator that President Donald Trump supports the gun control measures described:

An update from the White House: Hogan Gidley tells me that just because WH legislative director Eric Ueland is among those pushing this on the Hill, it does NOT mean Trump himself has signed off on it. "Not even close." https://t.co/BF7cGDdzqA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

OK...

If in fact it is a WH or DOJ document I would venture it would show some type of official header?

If in fact the WH is NOT supporting this, I would suppose they (Him) would disavow the link between heh two? On this hot potato topic, even potentially fire someone who was a subordinate who acted inappropriately, or, without authorization??

Trial balloon? Diversion?

WASHINGTON, D.C. [ur=https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/firea ... document/l](September 18, 2019)[/url] — Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) published a new Policy Memorandum addressing gun control proposals contained in a new document captioned “Idea for New Unlicensed-Commercial-Sale Background Checks”. FPC’s Policy Memorandum is available online at FPCPolicy.org.

The “Idea” document was first reported by The Daily Caller’s White House Correspondent, Amber Athey, in her story entitled “EXCLUSIVE: Here’s The Document The White House, [Attorney General] Barr Are Using To Push Gun Control On Republicans,” earlier today.

The “idea sheet circulating among Republican members” was reported to have been designed to “shop legislation on expanding background checks consistent with the Manchin-Toomey” gun control bill and “expand background checks to include all commercially advertised unlicensed sales.” The proposals in the document include creating a new class of “licensed transfer agents” and two new forms (“Bill of Sale/Chain of Title” and “New Form/Certification”), in effect a back-door, nationwide firearm registry, in order to force those engaged in the “commercial sale of firearms” to comply with the record keeping requirements of the existing Gun Control Act. But those who sell guns commercially must already comply with the Gun Control Act, regulations, and state and local laws, including by performing background checks.

“As we show, the ‘Idea’ document starts and finishes on a foundation of ignorance and nonsense. It has all the substantive value of a scrawling on a discarded bar napkin and poses neither novel nor meritorious solutions,” said FPC Director of Legal Policy, Matthew Larosiere.
DOJ wants a registry?
Color me shocked.

But, hey, if Hillary was elected, this would have happened 6-12 months ago...so....#Winning!....amIright?

Where are the cries of Treason now that the GOP is offering it?
Must vote for this in every "most important election of your lifetime"!
Don't worry, give the dealmaker time, he's playing 4D to the 16th power chess.
What's the new excuse? Anyone? Anyone?

We have been falling for this "Do Something" nonsense for a generation, why is this going to be any different? And IF we beat this back today, why won't it pass 10 years from now? We need a better foundation from which to argue.

GCA68, NFA34 all need repealed. Do THAT!

Here's Senator Ted Cruz(R-TX) agreeing to the NFA, GCA, and the NICS scheme in general while differing on the proposed DOJ registry. *sigh*
