Strange sign at Erie Ottawa International Airport.

Post by Brian D. »

Also known as Port Clinton Airport. Whatever. Went to the museum-diner there for breakfast on Saturday. The sign into the building through the front door read "Firearms Prohibited by County Ordinance". Well, that's some unusual wording. Some other doors around the facility weren't similarly posted, by the way. Eyeballing closer, I could have gone into several other buildings through various other open unlocked doors, unchallenged.

Signs like that really are security Kabuki Theater.

The semantics are indeed odd. Only Cuyahoga and Summit counties are allowed to pass ordinances. The others can only pass resolutions.

I don't know what the ordinance says or if it's legitimate, but the museum and The Tin Goose Diner are on a separate parcel from the airport runways, etc. They are owned by the airport, but are most likely leased to the museum and diner, not operated by the airport. The airport is made up of a number of separate parcels that don't appear to be consolidated.

The sign didn't list a specific ordinance number, which makes me suspect of its truthfulness. (Wouldn't be the first time that's been tried.) Thanks for the details on airport jurisdictions there.
