We are building a new house this summer/fall. I would like to upgrade my safe during this process (what I have now is a glorified locker).
My thoughts were to figure out what I want in the $1.5-2.5k price range and have it delivered before the first floor joists are installed. It could then be lowered into what wil be the unfinished portion of the basement. I could build a plywood crate around it for protection (maybe it comes in one?).
I am looking for safe recommendations based on my stated price range (I have 12 long guns and a fair number of handguns) as well as thoughts on my construction planning.
Flame away!

The key is find the 1 you like for your needs then go with the next biggest size, most will agree & tell you the same thing.
The extra space with going with the next biggest size will get used for, files (paperwork), titles, misc items & your wifes gold & diamonds.
If your new house has a walk out basement, we used a bobcat to move my buddies safe in his house that way.

Now there is a thought. Obviously one could spend themselves into oblivion if unchecked but worth looking into.

Great advise. The design, as it stands right now, does not call for a walk-out but everything is subject to change for a couple more weeks.

Honestly, if you are having the basement walls poured it won cost a prohibitive amount to have the walls for the room poured as well. Then you just need to get a strong door. It doesn't have to be a vault door but a solid constructed door with steel jambs. Something with a three point lock.
If you do decide to go the route of a safe, look at the Pendeltons< I so want one of these safes that you can get to any firearm without having to unload half the safe.
Only safe on the market that looks like it can actually hold as many guns as the manufacturer claims.
They can get pricey pretty quick, but the knight series should be able to be obtained in that price range.
