Taurus pt111 g2
Wanted to give an initial range report on this. Finally got to shoot it yesterday and I put 100 rounds of tula steel case ammo through it without a malfunction and ran 20 rounds of drt hollow points ammo through it. They preformed well also. Now I will not be using the drt ammo as carry ammo but got it in a trade and thought I would see if the Taurus would have any problems with it. As a side note the tula ammo was not dirty at all I have shot winchester white box and had it be dirtier than the tula. All in all I'm very happy with this gun so far and with a price tag right around 2 bills im pretty impressed.
The trigger was pretty bad in da mode with lots of take up and then it hits a wall and then it is just a little gritty . Shooting it from the reset in sa mode was tons better though. It has a very short reset and it breaks fairly clean. Like i said for a 200 dollar gun I couldn't be happier with it. It's no glock or Smith or Springfield but it is very serviceable and for the compact size has 12 rounds of 9mm. And is very easy to shoot. Just my initial opinions and I thought I would pass them along. Thanks Anthony

Re: Taurus pt111 g2
I sold two at the last gun show and had checked them out before selling them. One had a slightly better trigger out of the box so I put a snap cap in it and just worked the trigger for about 15 minutes so there was about 500 squeezes. The trigger was noticeably better after that. I, too, was impressed by the way it felt, handled and shot and would have felt confident carrying it if I wanted to.

Nice review, the PT111 line has been around for a while. So Taurus must be doing something right with it.

Notice the "G2" in the model name?Whirlwind06 wrote:Nice review, the PT111 line has been around for a while. So Taurus must be doing something right with it.
Yeah, that's because the older PT111 models, and others, sucked.

Court documents say Taurus was forced to pay a $1.2 million judgement when an Alabama man shot himself after his PT-111 dropped to the floor and discharged in 2009. The documents also say the Sao Paulo, Brazil, police recalled its Taurus .40 caliber handguns after discovering the pistols could discharge with the safety engaged.
The settlement agreement covers nine Taurus models, including the PT-111 Millennium; PT-132 Millennium; PT-138 Millennium; PT-140 Millennium; PT-145 Millennium; PT-745 Millennium; PT-609; PT-640 and PT-24/7, Taurus says.
“Neither the settlement nor the allegations in the case include any of the popular Taurus G2 model pistols,” the company added.

I saw a video from the Sao Paulo Police demonstrating that very thing. I can't speak Portuguese, but even without translators I could tell they weren't very happy.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Re: Taurus pt111 g2
I've tried taurus products a number of times just because of the enticing price points, and thinking that they can't be that bad since they are built on beretta platforms (like many guns cloning the 1911 or CZ platforms), and they have been around forever to learn from mistakes, and each time, they do fit their image and reputation as a cheap marginally usable gun. I've tried, thinking each time I'm gonna be impressed, or the internet is prejudiced--- No, never impressed. They try to be all things to all people and cram too much feature into their guns that actually are a negative--- reduce inventory and focus on doing a few choices really well rather than many many gun choices, mixed features all over the place, and not so well.
Really you get what you pay for in the Taurus line--- save your money a little longer and move up : a S&W, Ruger, SA, or Glock is not that much more money, especially used. A used SW, or Glock is going to have much more validity than a new or used taurus--- boring but still more for your money.

'CAN' does not equal "SHOULD'.
