Why churches?

This message is directed at those that were instrumental in get in the original conceal carry laws passed:
Churches, places of worship, etc., why would the Ohio legislative body add churches into the list of CPZs? Was there a special interest group that lobbying for this addition? As far as I can tell a church is the only private property area that is listed.

Don't forget day care centers..... And schools (even private ones..)

Back then a very vocal group of clergy, mostly from the interior of large urban centers across Ohio, got together for the purpose of haranguing the OGA into making churches automatic criminal protection zones. Some of their jargon was catchy, and even rhymed.
How could we fight such rhetoric with truth and substance, when at that time the legislative make up was nearly more "blue" than "red"?
Sorry about the cynicism but you probably get where I'm coming from.

Yes.
Still is. We've tried to get rid of 'churches' several times. Ain't gonna' happen any time soon.

Too late for my pastor (seminary grad), so I take him to the indoor range a couple of times a quarter. He's still a little shakey with a pistol, prefers my long guns. And he's having fun!

By the time they become bishops and have the power to actually set policy in a diocese, it will be 2046.
