Surppressor Advice Sought

Post by fabulouslife »

I have a .40 S&W Sig Sauer P226 with a threaded barrel that I am having a heck of a time finding a suppressor for.

The OD of this barrel is too small for standard .40 S&W threads (9/16-24 or 14.5-1) so the barrel has been done at 13.5-1. I can't find a suppressor anywhere that has the appropriate threads (they're all 14.5-1, not 13.5-1), nor can I find an adapter to make this barrel fit. Obviously I'm keenly aware that the suppressor mount needs to be able to allow .40 caliber bullets to pass safely through as most of the 13.5 sized suppressors are typically made for 9MM.

I tried to work with the Silencer Shop but they were unable to help. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

I'm really surprised that Silencer Shop couldn't help. Maybe they didn't understand your question? Anyway ... Silencerco makes several models available to fit 40 and 45, the latter of which can also be used with 40. It's not so much the caliber that's an issue but rather the piston. Although I don't own one I'm a fan of the Osprey Octane. Shoots nice and the pistons can be swapped out based on threading. As long as the silencer is rated for your caliber or larger you're good to go. They do offer a piston in 13.5:1 LH.

I run cans on my rifles but not pistols. I also shoot mostly 9, 40 and 357 SIG (don't even own a 45), but if I were getting a can for my pistols I'd definitely pick up the 45 for the most flexibility. Later on if I had money burning a hole I'd start buying the lower calibers to more exactly match the individual setups but my first buy would be one to do it all, even if at a bit of an inconvenience of swapping pistons and threading/unthreading at the range.
