Facebook Gun Groups?

Post by Mortar34 »

I've heard some rumblings about local Facebook gun groups, similar to a "buy, sell, trade" type of closed group. I live in Youngstown and am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of such a thing? Also, how would I do it? I've never had a Facebook profile and know I would need to create one....then what? Do you apply to join the group? Is it worth it? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Worth it? Yup. Most groups are local and closed. You need to first join Facebook then get looking around using the Search bar. Know any women or teens, they can help you with Facebook.
What County are you in? Most groups go by County.

I'm Mahoning County and my wife could help me with Facebook. I'm sure I could figure it out but I hate how public Facebook is and how easy it is for people to see what you're doing., so I want the privacy settings set up right.

So....create a profile...search for what I want in Mahoning County....then I assume there's an "apply" feature or something of the like?

Yeah I won't use you real name, unless you already are set up. I was on one Ohio group that seemed to be a felon or other restricted person shopping site. People posting "I have $200.00 what can I get" Or a really high price for a common gun, more then NIB. Every once in a while a good deal would come up but I'm kind leery of putting my info out there. I guess I could change my FB screen name so it's not my real name or create another account.

I have left most of them. Childish people on them. I have seen a few forum members on various groups lately.

Shame....I'm not looking for any drama. Does anyone know if there are any worthwhile groups in Mahoning County or NE Ohio? If not I'll skip the hassle.

Theres a ton. Ive been kicked off of most because I call people out on their BS, but theres a lot left.

Once you get you account set up LMK and I will message you some of the groups, unless you guys want me to just post them here in the thread.

Some are region specific but most are just "Ohio" groups.

armslist.com you can list by region, works like craigslist.

or

classifieds here
'CAN' does not equal "SHOULD'.

I'm familiar with both. Armslist doesn't have a ton available in my area and also very deservedly earned the moniker, "Scamlist." I've used the classifieds here several times, just sold some brass on it a couple weeks ago. I believe in the "cast a wide net" theory of gun collecting. 8)

Just a FYI...most of the gun groups in my area are secret, meaning they will NOT appear when searching. MUST be added by a current member...not sure how common that is elsewhere in the state. Cuts down on the underage and felons..

Ok, broke down and made a FB account. Did not use my real name. Found a couple groups but will pm Dan for some pointers. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to let me know here or pm me. Thanks for the help!

Just be careful. I saw negotiations for a G19 in progress on one thread, but the potential buyer's phrasing had me suspicious. I did some digging and discovered the potential buyer was a minor. I shared that fact on the thread, and the minor said that he was doing the shopping, but his dad was going to buy the gun for him with money from his grandparents. Long story short, he was kindly advised by others that attempting to buy a firearm as a minor is unwise and to let his dad do the shopping, buying, and owning until he's of legal age.
