German Luger Info Please

I'm asking for a little help. I know we have members who have gun research foo much stronger than mine. I have a German Luger 7.65 mm from my grandfathers estate. I've shot it on 2 occasions and it functioned flawlessly.
I'm looking for it's age and current value. Any help would be greatly appreciated.











If you can't read them, the serial numbers match, 8580*

Number on top indicates year manufactured (I believe that says "02"). Serial number indicates position in production run.


Would the magazine happen to have a number on it?

No number on the mag that I can find. There is also a holster and another mag. Both of which I can't locate.

(FYI the last 2 digits of the serial is what is stamped on the other parts to match it so blurring out the last of the serial didn't help much!)

Crown-over-N proofmark means it was tested for Nitro (smokeless) powder. The marks are straight on top of each other- instead of slanty- which means 1920 and later production... but DWM was gone by 1930- Mauser took them over and DWM had been eaten by some other company in the mid 20's.
Not stamped "Made In Germany" so it is not a US-import market gun.
5-digit serial number 85802... I believe this will be 1921 production. DWM started marking the guns with military style serials- there will be a letter after the serial number on the frame- in the middle of 1921 and a serial number in the 9000's.
Is the mag floorplate wood or plastic?
Do the mags have numbers that match the gun?

I am WAG'ing here, but I'd say you may be in the $1200-$1500 range of value, maybe more once a serious Luger collector weighs in here to clear it up. I'm not a Luger expert.

False claims of stolen guns, along with keeping Uncle Sammy's nose out of our beeswax.

The floor plate on the mags are wood. There are no serial numbers on the mag.

It's a nice pistol... Have always wanted to shoot one... My great uncle brought one back from Germany after WWII...I never got to shoot it though lol.
