the right ( for you) gun makes all the difference
I have had my license since almost the beginning. I was one of the guys that had their name and addresses in the sidney paper.. I used to carry every day and to be honest I really disliked it because it was just damned uncomfortable. I have a full sized 1911 that was my main carry gun and I tried a couple of different holsters and settled on a crossbreed super tuck. BUT The gun was still always there digging in ( I am fat so there is THAT lol) I went to a pocket hammerless .38 smith but couldn't hit dirt with it if I was shooting at the ground...then a pt145 millenium pro but the trigger on it didn't suit me...then a glock 27 ( liked that one but just not a glock guy so I sold it) .. finally just basically quit carrying unless I was traveling somewhere . I always liked the 1911 format but the small ones just didn't suit me. I LOVE the full size colt I have except the barrel was always digging me when I set down. I had zero issue with the grip size it was the barrel length. a few days ago my son sent me a text saying that EXACTLY what I was looking for was for sale on a gun sight on Facebook. I contacted the guy.. did some negotiating and rode my bike over to Marysville and met him....I LOVE this gun and have barely taken it off since I got it...It is a Para Ordinance EXPERT CARRY full size grip for my fat hands.. 3.3 inch barrel ( I think) 8+1 capacity PLUS all my colt mags fit it...... I also think I got a great deal. I got the gun with the box and all original receipts ( gun was bought new in november or february, I cant remember) and case candy....150 rounds of factory ball ammo.... 50 rounds of defense ammo ( mix of gold dot and hydra shocks) and a leather holster for 550 bucks.... SO if you are not carrying all the time and if it is a matter of comfort try out different guns.. it does REALLY matter..... so much that I am using the same super tuck but this gun just seems way more comfortable for some reason...maybe it is just the " new" but whatever works.

Great story. Glad you related your journey. Sometimes it takes a long time before everything clicks into place.
