Good non-chain firearm stores around Ada?

Post by rcsob657 »

Hello folks, well it's confirmed I will be heading to ONU this fall. I will not be as well armed as I had hoped, so if anyone can suggest a good local firearm store (dedicated or pawn) in the Ada area for me to browse once settled into classes; that would be awesome. If it has a range, all the better.

Can't help with the gun store question.

What made you decide on ONU?

Three things. Of the choices I gave myself, the campus seemed like it would be a good fit for me. Secondly, it was one of the more affordable options even considering my scholarship offers. Finally, say the previous two were all relatively equal, I think I would like to participate in one of their specific JD/LLm programs. It seems interesting to me, even if the value added is kind of in the air.

There is nothing in the Ada area except corn and wheat fields. Lima and Findlay would be the nearest options.

There were several in the Ada/Kenton area until last year when two of them closed.

Using Bud's Gun Shop FFL search they still show one in Ada, if it's who I think it is ,he's a member of another forum & works out of his home. I'll try to pm him to see if he is still available.
( His street was closed for quite a long time while road construction was ongoing last year on Lima Ave.)

There's also one 12 miles away in Huntsville, Patriot's Attic. Two or three in Bellefontaine,& at least two in Findlay also.

I've already pointed out that you start this fall. Give him a call when you get settled.

For a range there are several Sportsman clubs in the Ada area. Can't speak to Liberty or Hog Creek's membership dues or their ranges.

I assume that you found off-campus housing. I also note that the code of student conduct at Ohio Northern prohibits firearms anywhere on campus. Do you plan to just keep the gun at home?

Also, if you plan to obtain a handgun at local gun store, you should probably obtain an Ohio driver's license at your earliest convenience.

Ohio state law prohibits campus carry, so there's that. :D As to the second part, I plan to but until that happens, my GA WCL will do just fine.

Ohio state law prohibits campus concealed carry, so there's that. :D As to the second part, I plan to but until that happens, my GA WCL will do just fine.

That's true. But also consider that a private university, unlike a state university, can ban all carry, open or concealed, on the land or premises of the campus, except for the locked-in-the-car provision.

As to the second matter, I wonder how willing an Ohio FFL will be to sell rcsob657 a handgun on the basis of proof of Georgia residency.

There is that - other than something in the student handbook I don't know if any of them actually do so, however they would be within their rights to do so as you note.

Yeah, I don't think a GA WCL will do much to convince an OH FFL that it is OK to sell rcsob657 a handgun... :?

Fairly certain the one I referred him to would not.

JustaShooter, that FFL holder posts as slugger6 on XDTalk.
