Carr, the Floor Walker, sees the Plain Dealers attempt to place blame on inanimate objects, rather than deal with the real problem - said problem being armed criminals who do not obey our laws. Do they truly believe armed criminals will obey new laws, when they don't choose to obey laws already in place?

Yeah, that "inanimate object" mentality is no doubt "the hobgoblin of little minds" as Ralph Waldo Emerson once stated. When that same news writer makes a factual error in a story, does he afterwards try to blame the printing press?
