Help OFCC at Medina Gun Show June 21/22 2014

OFCC is looking for a few people to help man the OFCC table at the Medina Gun Show, in Medina city, on June 21st & 22nd, at the Medina Co Fairgrounds Community Center.

I am the show leader but I CAN NOT be present that weekend, we can use all that can be available each day to help out! It would be nice to have at least two people at the table at all times to help spread the word about OFCC, hand out info, and take donations. That would give us plenty of help to rotate out for restroom & food breaks, as well as time to check out the vendors. And, as most of you already know, working the show gets you free admission.

For those of you that have never worked a gun show, or other OFCC event, this is a great opportunity to meet & talk to like minded people, meet some of your fellow OFCC members, and help out an organization that has done a lot to improve our gun rights in Ohio.

Count me in for Saturday. Sounds like we'll need to do some coordination to make this work with the materials, etc.

For anyone who hasn't ever helped out at a show, here are some things to keep in mind:

• You get in the show for free!
• You *do* know enough to help. Trust me on this. Between the materials we bring and the other people there, if you don't have the answer to a question we can either find it or look it up. Mostly, you get to talk gun stuff with like-minded folks and advocate for OFCC.
• You get in the show for free!
• People Watching - sometimes it is even better than the People Of Walmart. (If you are unfamiliar with the People Of Walmart, google it. Hilarious!)
• Tesla Buttons (See previous point). If you don't know what a Tesla Button is, see the wrap-up from the Summit County show a few months back.
• Most importantly, this is a critical time for 2A rights in Ohio and the country. We need folks to help get the word out and drum up support for the cause. You'd be surprised at how many people attending the gun shows don't know about us and what is happening on the legislative front both here in Ohio and nationally.
• Oh, and did I mention you get in the show for free?

Wish I could be there. Going though gun show withdrawal and won't be able to make it this month. A friend from Illinois is coming in for Ashland Lake Gun Club's Women on Target event on Saturday. I'll be there taking pictures all day. Sunday my friend will want to go to Youngstown Rifle & Pistol for their monthly IDPA match.

For those considering it, go for it! You'll meet some great people and have a great time.

There is not much I can add that the fine folks ahead of me did not say.

This is a great experience for anyone who wants to participate (or just get started into advocating). Saturday or Sunday - either day you can make it - you will be in good hands. I have personally worked with JustaShooter and djmac1964 at shows, and they are top notch. (No offense to hvactom - he is top notch as well! I just have not had the chance to work with him yet - but we are going to fix that!)

Those guys will help you through and you can get lots of info from them. I know in Columbus, we have new folks try out working the shows with us - and it's a no pressure approach. If you want to observe for a little bit - that is fine. Jump in when you feel ready!

Your volunteering goes a long way to help out the organization. Trust me, people are interested in the organization and protecting their gun rights. I was talking with a lady this weekend at TDI - and she told me "Yeah, I picked up one of those flyers in the classroom!". All because a few of us were standing around talking about the gun bills in the OGA right now. Gun shows are a great way to help spread the message and draw in advocates from a similarly minded group (just like at TDI this past weekend).

Wow, everyone trying to post at the same time to volunteer must have clogged up the internet, and none of the posts got through!

This one is two weeks out now, and so far we have JustaShooter as the lead on Sat, and Myself as the lead on Sun. It sure would be nice to have at least one more warm body at the table each day. I don't mind doing these by myself, but it makes for a long day.

If you've never worked a show before, and are concerned you may not be able to answer the questions that are asked, don't sweat it. If you follow the forums at all, you will find you will be able to answer just about any question that comes up. And if you don't know the answer to something, you can refer them here to get answers! This is your opportunity to give back a little, and share your knowledge with others. Plus you'll be hanging out with like minded people, and possibly have a chance to put a face with some of the people you interact with daily, here on the forums.

Besides, I did some arm-twisting and I think I've got someone to help out Saturday morning (new to the forum but has been an OFCC Member in the past).
