Has anyone participated in this? I signed up for the next one, have never done it before.

I did bowling pin shoots for years but sometimes the setup and rules vary from "standard". Go do this one and let us know how it went. If you give some specifics perhaps others and I can offer some equipment/ammo advice.

If I recall correctly;

5 pins set up at 30ft.
2- mags with six rounds each
double elimination competition
calibers 22lr. and up..no .50 AE
no optics

I believe they may up seven pins with two of them being "no shoot" pins. I''m wondering how far from the edge of the table they set the pins, the person I spoke to didn't seem to know.

Is the correct approach to shoot each pin and then go back for stragglers?

Yeah, that way you get into a repeatable rhythm. I swear though, it's better to completely miss that first pin than nick it, make it fall, but have it NOT leave the table. Depends on how far back they're set, of course.

I tried it and didn't embarrass myself. Got down to the last ten or so out of 40. The guns used varied from Ruger Mk IIIs to revolvers to 1911 race guns.

The format was seven pins, with two "don't shoot pins." Double elimination. Two magazines loaded with six rounds each. Winner was the shooter to knock down the pins first, they did not have to clear the table. Extra points for clearing the table and rounds left upshot, points deducted for hitting the "don't shoot" pins. (I didn't fully understand the points scheme, as you advanced by being first to knock down your pins.)

I won one, lost one and went to the losers bracket, won three or four and then lost. Will try it again and hopefully will do a little better.

The points were more for the overall score of four matches.

It's a good time - the first one ever (four months ago) was super slow - it's improved in efficiency as well as planning - and with finding some of the same people shooting it again and again, it makes the down time a good time to chat it up with others.

What gun did you end up shooting?

I used a 9mm PPQ and 115g fmj. I might try the same gun with hollow points or a .45 cal. 1911 next time.

Sounds like fun maybe I'll try one soon! I think I'd run my 1911 45 acp govt model with 200 gain rnfp lead boolits.
