Hi all,
Is there a basic defensive rifle course in the Cleveland (within 45 minutes) area this summer? Near June/ July time frame? Not looking for a 3-5 day class, just a 1-2 day basic familiarization with an AR, setup recommendations, etc.
Thank you

Re: Defensive Rifle Courses Near Cleveland
Heya Arc -
So far, this is the only one I know of that's relatively close-by, but I will confess to not having pursued carbine training, yet, so I haven't really scoured the various Forums (like M4Carbine) for them, but here's the couple that I do know of:
http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=1415667" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
^ Jeff Carper, hosted by Burtzland Outfitters in Alliance. bug is a great guy whom I met at the NE-Ohio M&G last Saturday, and he'll be there. We got along *instantly*, so I'm sure you'll have a good time with him and his buddies, too. rsxr22 on that thread is a competitive pistol shooter (he was one of the co-organizers of the April 15th Bob Vogel class for 1911Addicts.com) and will be entering the AF later this summer...if he's thinking about it, that's a good sign that it's going to be a good class (he's got a wicked sense of humor, too, so, again, good times). I'm actually trying to arrange my schedule so that I can get in on this course, but I won't know until some time next week. It will be my first carbine course, ever (I actually hadn't planning on starting carbine work until next year), if that happens.

^ Follow the outlink to Redback One's website: this one will be hosted in PA, in September. They've got rave reviews from just about everyone I've talked to/read, and the trainer's name needs no discussion. All of the Addicts I've met so far are awesome people, so you'll have a good time there, too, I'm sure.
You'll also want to check-in with Chris Cerino (http://www.cerinotraininggroup.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , he also has a FB page [yeah, ironic, I'm not even on FB!
], so you should watch that, too, for updates). I know he ran at least one civilian AR session last year. I have not yet seen anything posted for him this year, and when I spoke with him at his last indoor mini-seminar (pistol), he had not yet had plans for civilian classes this year.
Commence FireARMs Training Academy (http://www.commencefire.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) may also be running some long-gun classes this year: that was the gist I got from Keith Campbell and his crew - I haven't seen any FB updates on them, nor has their main website been updated yet, with even their summer/fall handgun training schedule.
I also haven't seen any updates from GTA, yet.
If you remember Shane (the skinny Chinese guy, instead of me, the FAT Chinese guy
) from our DP2 class back in September/October of last year, he's really into long-gun stuff (mostly precision, though, IIRC). He's not really on the Forums much, as a participant, but if you reach out to him via e-mail, I'm sure he'll try to point you in the right direction, too.
Best of luck, and let me know what you find, too, OK?

Another one:
The Suarez group has an AR course in Zanesville this year - http://www.suarezinternationalstore.com ... le-oh.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That's more towards Columbus, but hey, it's at least in the upper half of the state!
