A grizzly bear attacked two hikers in Yellowstone National Park, but the men escaped serious injury, the National Park Service said Thursday.
Pat McDonald, 52, of Bismarck, N.D., and Gerald Holzer, 51, of Northfield, Minn., were hiking on a trail near Shoshone Lake in the park's southern section Wednesday when they noticed fresh bear scat, officials said in a written statement.
They decided to continue, but were charged by a grizzly bear "at full stride" about a quarter-mile further along the trail, the release said.

By the way: there are no guns allowed in Yellowstone National Park...

Tom, One of them had McDonalds on his clothes. OK I'm bad and this is serious, I'm sorry but I just couldn't hold it back.
I agree Predator and human confrontations are getting bad. There were two hunters ( elk or deer hunters ) attacked by a grizzly while I was out West last season and one of the hunters killed it in defense. IF he is to go to trial or not I don't know yet, as I have not seen any more about it. It was around a 100 miles away from us as we were in the Plains at the time. It is a concern for me when I go to the mountains, as I have stated before. Hey I'm afraid of lions especially and very respectful of bears, both blacks and grizzly/browns. When you have walked in a big loop and find bear tracks ontop of your tracks it lets you know you are not at the top of the food chain all the time I have seen bear spray work on film before but I would prefer a BIG gun in an encounter of the close type.

Yeah, I think I would prefer to watch somebody else with a BFG in an encounter of the close type -- and I'd prefer to watch it on film....
