It checks spelling, usage, grammar, and sentence structure.
I'll report on how things go in a week or so.
I tried to download After the Deadline, but it isn't compatible with the latest version of Firefox.
I'm running Firefox 3.6.8 which, when I check for updates, is said to be the latest version.
After the Deadline installed perfectly on my machine.
I didn't use the download from the link I published, however, I got it from HERE.
I got this "This add-on has not been updated to work with your version of Firefox." I'm using Firefox 4.0 Beta 3

To restate the obvious, it's not always likely that an add-on will work with a beta update.... :D

Usually the add-on guys have access to such things, but may not always release their own updates until the base product is close to being out of beta.

With essentially free distribution, the PITA factor is really the only thing, but sometimes the base product breaks the add-on's rather seriously, and the fixes may take a while.

I had a grammar checker in one of my word processors many years ago. I tossed it. We didn't get along well :D.... My style is just a little skewed :) ....

(Not picking on you about that beta issue - some of the guys here don't have a handle on stuff like that.)

Stu.

I have my pet grammar peeves too. It is amazing to me that many of these errors are found in books and newspapers. This doesn't speak well for those who edit the material.

My principal arguments for correct grammar and punctuation are:

1. The errors distract the reader from the subject.
2. The errors can make the text difficult to understand.
3. The errors brand the writer as careless. A few minutes used to proofread are minutes well spent.

I welcome corrections to my posts and I hope others will do so.

I’ve now read all 5 pages of this thread, and the only benefit, has been that I’ve managed to work the kink out of my neck from shaking my head from side to side.

Is this Ohioans for Concealed Carry or Ohioans for Proper Grammar? I can’t believe an issue is being made of this. I’m not an English major, I don’t work for the media, I’m not an author of a book or publication, I’m not a playwright or theatrical composer and I don’t write and submit briefs to the court. I couldn’t possibly care less if what I’m writing or reading on this forum is grammatically perfect.

I read and post on this forum because the subject is important and interests me. I don’t visit this forum hoping to find individuals who are counting commas, semicolons and exclamation points.

Those who post and use less than perfect grammar are not intentionally doing so, and to expect people to sit down and conjugate the verb structure, consider a dangling participle, or contemplate if they are using the proper noun/pronoun relationship is ridiculous and off topic.

If improper grammar really bothers you that much, then perhaps compiling a list of those who frequently offend your sensibilities, and omitting the reading of their posts might be an answer for you; or perhaps you could volunteer your time tutoring English students at your local high school or adult education center.

Submitting a post such as this might result in my being dunked in hot water on this site, but if criticizing those with less than stellar grammatical skills is permitted, then so should defending them be.

Devlin,
If every poster was as clear and concise as you. this thread wouldn't exist.

The problem I have is when someone never uses paragraphs. That gets tough on the eyes.

Just wanted to make a formal apology for this post. i didnt think it would cause an issue enough for it to be deleted. Maybe its just my warped sense of humour.

Again, sincerest apologies.
