Third district is definitely anti-gun
Ok folks this is my first post so be kind. I live in Slavic Village in Cleveland. I went to Medina to get my CC License, I highly recommend this move for anyone having doubts, they are very polite and courteous. Ok fast foward to this weekend. I purchased a handgun no issues there either. I called the police headquarters and was told to go to a library and hung up on, when I asked about local gun ordinances. I went to Thompson FindLAW and looked up the codified ordinances. Ok registration is required but not much on what is needed to do so other than the cost (of course).
I called the number for gun registration got an answering machine. no way to talk to anyone about this mandatory gun registration, hmm prejudicial treatment ??. I took a day off work due to the obscene hours that this place is open. I walked in had a seat. The cop said can I help you in the rudest manner possible. I said "I'm here to register a gun". She replied "Oh shes sick" and looked away and would not acknowledge me again. I went home and called third district and said "I went to register a gun and the lady was sick". before I could even finish she replied " WELL I guess you will have to come back tomorrow, good bye". I thrust in and asked if there were anywhere else I could register she blurted no and hung up. I cannot find the post now but I would like to thank the person who gave the info for first district they were nice as could be. Use caution in cleveland proper my thought is if they are this nasty to people trying to obey their unconstitutional ordinances, I'd hate to see what they do when someone is actually carrying. By the way I'm a former marine and none of this has swayed me as a matter of fact I am going to infuriate them more by leaving no way for them to gig me on carrying which I duly intend to do ASAP.

Besides a select few most Street cops in Cleveland are pretty stand up people. On the other hand. Those pencil pushers at the districts tend to be no different then your average BMV worker. Peace Officers by title only.
Then again I have never registered one of my guns in cleveland. Probably never will.

The irony being that libraries are enumerated CPZ's and the average police cruiser has protect and serve on itjayman867 wrote:I called the police headquarters and was told to go to a library and hung up on, when I asked about local gun ordinances.

As a side note, registration is tantamount to systematic disarming of citizens. I would never live where registration was required.

Registration
Good point about Cleveland unfortunately, like most, moving at this time is not an option. I found out about registration literally about 6 days ago. I have no idea why they keep it a secret. No offense meant to any police on here. I know my encounter was with exactly 2 and I'm sure they get pressure and or opinions from higher ups who have a certain distaste for armed citizens. Sad part is I have lived here for seven years and five members of my family have had issues with thugs and the adorable Goonies gang. Two of them were my then 15 year old nephews who got their first experience with a gun to their heads. I'm sure the hoods didn't register their guns.

Hmm, bad service at the Third District, good service at the First District. Let's see now, which part of Cleveland does First District cover? Oh yeah, West Park.jayman867 wrote: I cannot find the post now but I would like to thank the person who gave the info for first district they were nice as could be.
Which part of Cleveland has the highest concentration of police officers and firefighters living in it? If I remember correctly, a recent PD article said West Park. I believe the article also said many other higher paid Cleveland employees live in West Park. Could that be why First District provides better service?

Third district is definitely anti-gun
jayman 867: OFCC Vice-President Bryon Torok is a sargeant with the Cleveland PD and he might (although I'm not sure) be stationed at the 3rd District. I'd contact him through the "Contact Us" section on the main website and relate your story. He may be able to provide some assistance.

Dad's Mandate
Dad was on the Cleveland force for 25 years and had stories of cops who were confined to office duty and not allowed to carry a gun because of mental problems. To have an office job was a real "black eye." When he survived a heart attack, he demanded a return to street duty rather than a few months of "light duty" (office) because of the stigma associated with it. That's probably a portion of the problems you have encountered. It was so bad, that Dad forbid me from considering following in his foot steps and warned me I would no longer be welcome in his house if I joined the force!
I'd suggest passing along your experiences to the Safety Director who may be inclined to do something about the problem.
By the way, I moved from Cleveland long ago and love rural central Ohio.

I live in the West Blvd. area fo Cleveland, so the 1st district was closest for me. When i did learn that Cleveland had a manditory gun registration, and trust me i wasn't happy about it but have to live her till I move in a few months, i was pretty bumed that the only place you can go is downtown...well its not true. The first district will allow you to go by appt. and even sets up Saturday appts. if more than 3 people want to go in that day. Really nice, and only took 10 mins.
I wan also told that most all of the Cleveland districts can set up appts. but maybe not on Sat.
I am still waiting for downtown to process my registration and get me my card. but it has only been since Sat. (its now Tues.).
On the other hand, i went to Lake county to turn in my CCW application on Sat at 2pm, and they had it ready to pick up at 8:30am Monday...now thats service. FYI: Lake county has Sat CCW, first come first server 8am-3pm and very nice. No picture needed because they take it there, and no-mess digital fingerprinting.

I had basically he same experience at 3rd district, the officer who sits at the desk in the back was a real A@@HOLE! I posted about it, and someone from this board suggested going to 1st district, where the officer who handled my registration was very cordial.
But ya, why does Cleveland keep this stuff a secret.
