At the recent gun show, I belive I was seeing $100 for 200 rds of mil surp.
I picked up 500rds of wolf, for $125 myself. It seems like it is all hard to come by, and all expensive.

Just to clarify: are you looking for loaded ammunition, or projectiles?

How true is it that the DPMS line REALLY doesn't like the Wolf ammo??

DPMS states that you are to use brass cased ammo, no steel case allowed. That may just be the company line, just like they say not to use reloads. I know of one person who shot lots of Wolf in his Kimber 1911 and ended up with a beat up and eventually broken ejector, probably from the steel cases. AR15 ejectors work differently so it may not be as much of an issue, however the lacquer coating will still gum up the chamber if you shoot a lot of the steel case ammo.

Steel cased ammo will wear out an AR extractor faster. A general rule of thumb is replace the extractor every 5k rounds with steel cased ammo. The new polymer coated wolf stuff will not leave plastic on the chamber, but it does allow a significant amount of powder residue on the chamber due to blowby (steel cases don't expand well enough to fully seal the neck area of the chamber).

Jeff Bartlett has 55gr Sierra Varminter (#1360) at $12/100, $55/500, and $100/1000. He's a good guy to deal with...
Of course, these aren't plain-jane FMJ, but you'd be getting a really nice projo for the money.
