I was in a Basic Pistol course Saturday and someone had a Thigh holster. You can have a leather or velcro strap around your thigh with holster on top of your thigh while driving which is in plain site on top of your right leg/thigh.
When you stop to get out of the car, move the gun to your real holster and discard the travel one on the floor etc.
Never tried it, just heard someone talking about it.

I've seen that before, but perhaps some of the guys & gals here haven't....
However, any "action" that involves unholstering the gun endangers us, our passengers, or other passers-by. That's good for the anti's in two ways.
1. We can't expect to safely handle the firearms we want to carry.
2. We won't safely handle the firearms we want to carry.
The truth, of course, is that they want us to injure somebody....
Any solution that requires unholstering should be avoided.... We are smart enough to realize that it's is dangerous....
My personal solution is to carry a big 1911 in a high-rise belt holster with whatever clothing I'm wearing over top of it tucked back around the thing. It's (IANAL) in compliance in so far as is possible (the courts still are out on this one), and relatively convenient. And I don't have to muck with it.... I would normally prefer a much smaller gun, but our anti friends fixed that....
Of course, there are alternative methods of carry, but they are useless if you're operating the motor vehicle, and involve handling the gun, too.
Regards,

Since my stop last month, where the LEO came up on the passenger side and commented that he could not see my weapon from the passenger window, I have been carrying my .45 on my thigh. I use a cheap Uncle Mikes ankle holster with a velcro extension belt. It coust me about $30 bucks. I cant figure how to attach a picture, sorry

If you wore it on top of your head, he still wouldn't be able to see it if he were laying on his back looking up at you. For as long as he's neglected to bring his Picasso specs, the inability to not see it from ONE angle does not mean it was not in plain sight. I've had cops always approach on the driver's side, but I've read often enough that it happens on the passenger's side too. How are we to know which side they'll be approaching from? I think most of us take care to not get pulled over in the first place. What then about people like myself who are carrying one on each side? If they don't roll in tandem, I'm screwed? Hardly.
