I believe that it is just an inclusion of some places that may have Class D licenses.

Correct - what they leave out from the end is "that hold liquor licenses." Ohio issues all sorts of Class D liquor licenses depending on the type of venue. Specifically they've subdivided D5 up pretty well. All have the same privileges of a regular D5 but sometimes have different hours and permit fees (for example the license for a casino is 20 grand).

Here are the the D5 types:
D5 - Spirituous liquor for on premises consumption only, beer, wine and mixed beverages for on premises, or off premises in original sealed containers
D5A - Hotel And Motel
D5B - Enclosed shopping mall
D5D - D5 licensee located at airport
D5E - Historical river boat owned by charitable organization
D5F - Marina restaurant
D5G - National sports museum
D5H - Fine arts museum
D5I - Restaurant meeting certain criteria
D5J - Community entertainment district
D5K - Certain non profit organizations that own and operate a botanical garden
D5L - Retail food establishment or food service operation meeting certain criteria
D5M - Restaurant affiliated with center for the preservation of wild animals
D5N - Casino Operator or Casino Management Company
D5O - Restaurant located in a casino

There are other D permits that I have not listed here ... the list is too long already!

The libertarian part of me sees that list, and thinks, "whoa!! That is ridiculous! There shouldn't even be class D places. Businesses should serve or not based on the market they are trying to attract."

Too bad the ORA doesn't decide to fight that fight, instead of trying to limit our carrying. They'd have more money to do business rather than having yet another business expense/aka tax.

It's official ... the Secretary of State's site is now reporting a September 30, 2011 effective date! Interestingly they only say that the bill is "Improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle that would no longer be a crime under the bill" I guess they kinda forgot about the more controversial part of it

You guys are doing great work! Here in NC, we are a little slower... our governor just signed the castle doctrine. We are working on that one, too!

Most malls have the CPZ sign up.

Are there any requirements to post a CPZ sign, or can any establishment/facility do it. That is one loophole within this law is that there is no standard criteria. You will find more CPZ signs posted now in more restaurants and clubs . The stadiums will immediately think of this too.

Correct. Shopping malls are not enumerated CPZ's. As private property, however, they have the ability to post just like any other business. That language came from the bill summary and was likely the mistake of some intern.

So on Sept 30 when this goes into effect I can carry in my vehicle any way I choose? Lay pistol on the passenger seat for example? Or lay it in the center console in the open?

And as far as going into a class D. If say Friday's post a no guns sign. Will they now be like any other private company in as much as IF you carried there and somebody saw it is a misdemeanor and not a felony as it used to be for carrying into a bar? Is this correct?

I was perusing the FAQ http://www.ohioccw.org/frequently-asked-questions.html and I noticed that none of the changes adopted by the signing on SB17/HB54 have been taken into account in the questions. I just wanted to bring this to the attention of someone who can make these changes.
