This is what I was thinking, I thought that the "Right of the people to peaceably assemle" was part of the Bill of Rights.Ghost wrote:You have to have a permit to peacefully assemble?!?!?
Not surprised that this part is already stripped from us.

Actually, it may be that the organizer was trying to hold this on the state capitol's property, rather than on the sidewalk near/around it, because in his original letter he said not to concealed carry because it would be on govt property. But the sidewalk would be alright for concealed carry.XDSC9G30 wrote:This is what I was thinking, I thought that the "Right of the people to peaceably assemle" was part of the Bill of Rights.Ghost wrote:You have to have a permit to peacefully assemble?!?!?

I'm sure people are still going to go, whether or not there is an organizer. But it's certainly demotivating having the (now 2nd) organizer drop out.

WHAT: "Guns Across America" is a peaceful picketing protest against ANY, AND ALL future gun legislation. This is our chance to reach out to our elected officials, and tell them NO NEW GUN LAWS! "Guns Across America" is being tailored to happen in every states capital city, at their capital building. The theory behind doing this event on a Saturday, is most conservative gun owners work a typical Monday through Friday job. I'm hoping for a massive response by doing this on a weekend.
WHERE: We will meet on the Corner of E. Broad St. and Third St. We can spread out from there. As of right now, we haven't gotten permission to protest at the State Capital building, but as long as we stay off the lawn and on the side walk, we should be ok. (Permission for a permit has been requested again.)
WHEN: January 19, 2013 @ 12:00 noon (local time)
If anyone has any input or suggestion for anything, let me know.
Please continue to check this page daily for updates or changes made.
...peace out

It was my understanding back when we had the Open Carry at the state house a couple years back that if they weren't going to issue a permit that it would be moved to the side walk. That is always an option.SC-JG wrote:On again:

It not only looks like this is a go, but it looks like there will be a very good turnout! No excuses guys! Let's get behind this and show up!
I'm going to open carry my handgun and bring a sign.

The event organizer (Matt Smith) was contacted by the local Columbus NBC4 channel, and they want to do a phone interview with a Columbus resident. If you're well-spoken and live in Columbus, please respond to his request here:

I'm planning on going and looking now to see how many friends I can get to carpool with me.
