Excellent news! However, I'm a bit confused on the dates, seeing some contradicting information here. It was signed yesterday. So does it take effect on Sept 30? Or on Oct 1? Do we have a 100% confirmation on the exact date when one can legally eat at a real restaurant while carrying? The exact date matters quite a bit, since a person could mistakenly be off by one day and then arrested and have their rights abridged.

I'm curious about this as well.xwing wrote:Excellent news! However, I'm a bit confused on the dates, seeing some contradicting information here. It was signed yesterday. Very excited! It's about time, hopefully more states will follow in Ohio's footsteps.

Re: Governor Kasich Signs Restaurant Carry, HB54 into law.
The 90 day wait begins when the new law is filed with the Secretary of State. I expect that to happen today. The governor signed something like ten bills yesterday, including the budget. I assume his ofice will be filing all of them today, otherwise, they'll have to wait until Tuesday since Monday is the holiday.
Whenever it gets filed, OFCC will let us know the effective date.

I'm so thrilled. I'm the DD quite often for my group and it's nice that I'll be able to carry in liquor license signage bars.

I have to admit, I had my doubts about Kasich keeping his word to sign this.
His rep told me they were counting phone calls, and someone else said they were seeing how many yea and nay calls they got, and I got the impression that if enough antis called in that he'd veto the bill.
Not sure what happened but apparently the man kept his word to sign it, so all I can say is that he's regained some of the respect he had lost on my part.
Thanks for signing this Kasich.
Keep this up and maybe I'll vote for ya next time around.

The gun control group has to admit one of two things;
1. There is NO violent crime out there.....and therefore since there is no crime they have NOTHING to fear from our guns, or;
2. There IS violent crime out there....and therefore we are very much justified in wanting to carry a tool that can be used for self defense and that of others.
=Guns don't commit crimes, felons do=
=If guns cause crime someone needs to explain how there can be 80 million law abiding gun owners=

I read in a Reuters post that the signed bill "The new laws allow residents to carry concealed handguns into licensed establishments in the state, including shopping malls and sporting venues." I didn't know we weren't allowed to carry in shopping malls if they weren't posted. Did I miss something somewhere? I looked but couldn't find anything either in the CCW handbook or the SB17 that addressed this. I'm guessing that it is our lovely press simply writing anything they want and passing it off as truth.

Re: Governor Kasich Signs Restaurant Carry, HB54 into law.
Based on information just received from the Secretary of State's office at 3:45pm Friday evening that SB17 and HB45 are being filed with that office we can now announce that Ohioans For Concealed Carry believes that Restaurant Carry, reforms to the manner in which you can carry in a vehicle easier, and reforms to rights restoration in HB54 will have an effective legal day one of:
Friday, September 30th, 2011 - 12:00am (All day Friday)
While a formal opinion of the Secretary of State's office has not been publshed on their website we believe that it will be either today or next week Friday here:
http://www.sos.state.oh.us/sos/upload/r ... ts_129.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
We have come to the September 30th date based on an analysis and comparison of recently filed / enrolled acts with the Ohio Secretary of State's office (in the above PDF). Ohioans For Concealed Carry compared bills enrolled with the SoS and their "effective date" to the date the Secretary of State indicates that SB17 and HB54 were filed with the SoS offices (today). We believe based on that information and taking July 4th into consideration that the effective date of these laws will be September 30th, 2011.

Contrary to a popular belief when I brag about OFCC accomplishments I'm not looking for your thank you or personal recognition. I'd much prefer you send me an email telling me when you are going to get involved in doing what I've been doing since 1999. We are only as effective as we make ourselves. We need the next generation of OFCC to step to the plate.
Is that you?

Jeff, I would send in another renewal of my patron membership to celebrate this, but I think my membership is already paid through 2014. Maybe I'll just make another financial contribution to OFCC instead.jgarvas wrote:Ohioans For Concealed Carry Story:

For everyone else out there, I encourage everyone to either join OFCC if you are not a member, or go ahead and renew right now for another year. You are also welcome to make a financial contribution.

It takes money to bring people like Nikki Goeser to Ohio multiple times to get legislation like this passed.
Let's get the war chest started now for the next legislative push!

In the back, behind the Governor is Rep. Terry Johnson, the co-sponsor to HB45.jgarvas wrote:

I'm pretty sure we're allowed to carry in shopping malls. Does anyone else know about this?
