Well Brian D you can take comfort in knowing that, once you have served, you are exempt from getting called up for two years after that.Jury duty sucks. I've been called three times. Served once, and the other two times I was excused by a letter from my employer and a letter from my Dad's doctor designating me as a caretaker. My poor brother-in-law has been called up 4 or 5 times now. Hard to believe any one individual can receive multiple summons given the large size of Hamilton County's population. The only good thing is if you do get stuck doing it, your group has off days. IDK how I would respond nowdays as I'm now happily retired and no longer forced to get out of bed and drive to town in rush hour traffic. The TSA-like security screening is also degrading...and embarrassing in the case of the one time I forgot to take my Spyderco off of my pants

If I was reviewing jury duty like it was a restaurant: "One star out of five, do not recommend!" More about it later.

On the first day of entering the courthouse, my belt and or suspenders was setting off the metal detector. (Turned out to be suspenders, didn't wear them again on subsequent days.) Deputy told me I needed to remove them. Told him that was off the table, unless he wanted me to involuntarily drop trou by doing so. Couldn't swear that wouldn't pull my jockey shorts down too. He relented and wanded me instead.

In two weeks I almost never dealt with the same deputy twice, so no way to make the situation more amicable with time. Meanwhile, the non-security line folks breezed in like they were on their way to a free lunch. To steal pleasantguywhopacks's phrase, it's all Kabuki Theater security.

The last day of duty was Reds Opening Day. The Hamilton County courthouse should NOT be open that day, but it is. The entire downtown and Over the Rhine area is a gridlocked...poopshow. I (wisely) didn't drive to town that day. Getting INTO town early morning would have worked, but getting out at noon or later? Ha! I ended up walking 12 blocks to a cigar shop by Findlay Market, my trusty TDI cane ready and willing to smack anyone who impeded my sojourn.

Sounds like when I used to work downtown. Traffic, pay to park...if you can find a spot...pesky things like Reds Games and the various large festivals from May through October. Like I said...sounds too much like work! :|
