The forums have been hosted for some time now out of my pocket. We are coming up on the annual domain renewal for ohioccwforums.org and I pay roughly $20/month to keep the forums online. I do this to maintain the long-standing history of discussions here indexed in Google, and so that people have a place to discuss this topic outside of modern social media censorship. If you enjoy the forums and you'd like to help offset the cost, please consider a venmo donation here

To be fair, it wasn't just the one fatality. It was also a host of injuries, ranging from minor to life-threatening. The modern version at least won't stake the neighbor's toddler to the lawn with an ill-aimed throw.
According to the secretary at the place I used to work. the banning of Jarts and similar toys allowed kids who should have been pruned from the gene pool to grow up, and to our detriment they all became politicians..
I think she had a pretty good working theory going there..

Exactly. Most warning labels are counterproductive. The one example I always use is the warning label on hair dryers. If you are dumb enough to use one in the bathtub then you NEED electrocuted.

If someone is sooooooo stupid or clueless that they don't recognize the fact that throwing an object with a pointy metal tip on the end might cause injury/death and therefore take the proper safety precautions then no amount of nannying will protect them. They will simply find some other way to injure/kill themselves and others. And in the meantime everyone else is left to bear the costs.

"Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home
Let me die in a pile of empty brass."
