Here is a news story via Tom Gresham his father interviewed a little known person by the name of Ronald Reagan who used a personal firearm 1911 to scare away a gunman who was holding a gun to someone robbing them.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - When three teenage burglars pried open the door of a northwest Albuquerque home they had no idea they would be met by a brave little girl, police said Wednesday.
Alyssa Gutierrez, 11, took matters into her own hands Tuesday when police said when Miguel Marquez, Eduardo Zubiate and Jesus Quintana broke into her home.
Gutierrez armed herself with a loaded rifle.
Rifle is described as little and pink.

John Matthew Nichols, a Pike County homeowner who shot and killed one of two men who police said entered his home and robbed him, won’t be charged with any crime.
This happened about 2 years ago, Matt is my bosses step son, the rifle in question was a 30/30.Junk said the robbers took several guns but missed one, a rifle.
He said Nichols went after the two after they had gone out the front door. One of them threatened again to kill him. Nichols shot one of them while they were still in his front yard, sheriff’s deputies said.

Wasnt there a member here who posted about someone breaking in to his home, or he came home and there was someone already there, and he used his AR defensively?
No shots fired but he did "use" an AR-15.

Good work. Our friends in D.C. tend to forget that lawlessness happens from time to time. Wonder if there are any Katrina stories?

I know at the very least I would like to hear the story. More details the better.Cybercop wrote:How about a statement from an officer who was involved in an incident where a citizen armed with an AR15 just stepped outside and calmed the situation. I found this one on the Cato Institute's website but it was in a rather large document (http://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/file ... argets.pdf) so I did some web browsing. There were a number of sites that referenced it but this is the one I chose. The news station's website has purged the story.
"Joseph Murphy McRae got himself killed when he and his buddy Jeffrey Liles tried to ram a van through the front door of a coffee shop in Mount Gilead, North Carolina. That's when deputies said Bouaphan Chanthunom, 51, opened fire with an assault rifle, instantly killing Joseph Murphy McRae. Liles fled but was later arrested. The two men had also apparently robbed a motel that morning and were under investigation for other crimes in the area."
It's hard to imagine a 51 year old woman sitting in a coffee shop with an AR strapped to her but that's what it says.

Re: Call for Assistance: OFCC/WVCDL Joint Project
I came across another incident that took place back in 1984 involving a Gary Fadden. American Handgunner, March-April, 2004 by Massad Ayoob. I haven't been able to find the article but Gary Fadden used an AC-556 to defend himself and fiancee from an attack. I'm sure someone around here can probably dig up the original article but here is the incident I found in its entirety. It is a great read.
http://www.davehayes.org/2006/02/10/the ... n-incident
Excerpt: "Gary can see the spent .223 shells arcing lazily out of the mechanism. He stops the burst, aware that six shots have been fired, as the man in front of him falls heavily to the ground."

And yet another...
"When the butt of the rifle hit the shoulder pocket, Beckwith opened fire, manipulating the trigger as fast as he could. Suddenly, the AR was not responding; he had run dry.
The vehicle was still coming at him, rapidly closing the 50 yards distance.
A skilled man can reload an AR-15 almost as quickly as a Colt .45 auto, and Harry Beckwith is skilled at arms. As his right index finger punched the mag release, his left hand broke the spare magazine free of the rubber band and slammed it home with a practiced motion, his left thumb almost simultaneously pressing the bolt drop paddle on the left side of the frame.
He resumed fire, as fast as he could work the gun."

"Bayazes grabbed an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and found three men loading guns into a van that had crashed through the side wall of the store. After hearing the men yell to kill him, Bayazes shot one 30-round magazine of .223-caliber bullets before retreating to his bedroom to reload, he later told officers."
