Well obviously the numbers will be lame-o if everyone takes that attitude. :roll: With the AWB coming up, we should all be very vocally standing up for our rights.
I really did leave out the "if" first time around. Might be in the vicinity that day, so taking part ain't out of the question. Been there done that in Columbus more than once now, starting back in the late 1980s. Thousands of us marched from Veterans Hall (OGCA show) over to the Statehouse to protest their local Assault Weapons Ban, Version 1.0.

My reasoning is that it's worse to have a lousy turnout than just cancelling the thing. Media doesn't need any extra help trying to make us look like doofuses.

I agree with this. Having 2 events on the same day practically guarantees both will be poorly attended and the media will be able to portray that as weak support for our 2A rights.

So it's better to NOT stand up and support your rights if there's nobody else doing it?

Given that there are definitely people going, it's only going to be portrayed as weak support if enough people choose NOT to attend. The people to blame for this will not be those who do attend, but those who chose not to attend.

And if the organizer cancels the event at this point, would that not be seen as weak support?

We could wait until the stars all align, the NRA is on board, the weather improves, and we have 10,000 confirmed attendees. In the meantime, the guns will be banned and we'll either be stripped of our guns or be felons. The time to stand up is NOW! The Dictator in Chief is going to jam this through just like he did with his takeover of the nation's healthcare system (except a LOT faster). Waiting for the perfect day to protest is akin to doing nothing at all.

If an event is rescheduled, due to conflict with another pro-gun rights event, no that's not evidence of lack of support.
If an event is poorly attended, even if that's due to conflict with another pro-gun rights event, that will be seen & used by the media as lack of support.

After already being advertised by Fox News and prominent gun advocates, it certainly could be.

1. The two events do not conflict. The other event is not event an organized event, just a generic "gun appreciation day". Picketing at the capitol for 2A rights certainly qualifies as gun appreciation. Two birds, one stone.
2. If the rally is portrayed by the media as lacking support, the blame will be on those who chose NOT to attend, NOT those who chose to attend.

Exactly! I can't think of a better way to show your appreciation for gun rights than to show up at the Statehouse at noon and show your support! Then, you could stop at a gun shop or two on the way home and show some more appreciation by buying something!

The one thing that will definitely not show support is sitting at home, fearful that the turnout for the event won't measure up.

FYI: Medina Gun Show is the same day. It's generally well attended, and there are sure to be plenty of people lining up to buy what they assume will soon be banned.

The Ohio organizer just sent out this email:
Dear 2nd amendment supporters

My name is Adam Dennison; I am an Ohio Native and a member of the Ohio Air National Guard. I would like to thank each and every one of you for answering the call. The primary objective of this gathering is going to be to send a message to our local, state, and federal governments that we as a free people care deeply about our rights to personal protection, and we want to preserve our right to continue to possess and procure adequate arms and ammunition necessary to protect our liberty. We don’t have the first amendment so that we can talk about the weather. It is so we can talk about things that are highly controversial without repercussions. Likewise the Second Amendment was not just put in place for hunting. It is there so that we citizens and commoners can protect ourselves from the looming possibility of tyranny. Our next objective is going to be to respond to the media’s bias and skewed view of the gun culture in the United States. We are peaceful and productive members of society, and we need to do everything to show this to the masses who misunderstand, what the gun culture is really about.

You tube call to arms by Nutnfancy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUAfft7l4wQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We will be meeting Jan 19 at noon.

The parking location is going to be the Cosi and Veteran’s memorial parking lots. Parking will cost about five dollars, these two locations are only a quarter mile from the state house.

333 West Broad Street Columbus, OH 43215 Cosi
300 West Broad Street Columbus, OH 43215 Veteran’s memorial

Facebook event page with map:

http://www.facebook.com/events/32852950 ... ext=create" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here is a list of stuff to bring:

1. A pro second amendment sign, get creative and come up with a good slogan. Please keep it civil and don’t include anything offensive such as profanity or harsh depictions of current political figures.

2. Dress warm and casual, please don’t wear camouflage clothing or military gear, this is a stereotype and we don’t want the media to politicize this.

3. Please do all the research you can to be prepared should a camera be placed on you by media. Cite FBI, CDC, and EU studies that show that crime rates are lower in those areas with open gun ownership. Also make note cards so that you will be reminded of points that you may want to make with cited resources.

4. Please don’t open carry a concealed firearm as this will be held on state property, and I am not sure of the regulations for this.

5. Bring everyone you can wives, girlfriends, children, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and co- workers. They don’t even have to be gun owners so long as they like to support the bill of rights, and like the option to legally obtain a firearm.

Well, that was quick. The organizer has backed out, and apparently a permit is not going be allowed for the event:
Dear 2A supporters

I regret to inform you that due to the time constraints the Ohio State House is unable to issue a permit for this event, and we will not be allowed to legally demonstrate there. I am also going to relinquish my duties as organizer of this event. I work for my states government, and any political activism on my part may be frowned upon. I apologize for this news, However, I have included here the emails of everyone who has contacted my so far. Please take this information, and appoint a new organizer, find another place to meet. I was unable to find a place in Columbus, that will allow us to do this lawfully. The Facebook event page has also been taken down.

Thank you all

Gang, I've been around the 2nd Amendment rights movement for almost thirty years, not the first time such a thing has happened, sorry to say. I suppose someone else could start this over from scratch, but unless it's a "name" from one of the well-established Ohio groups, I don't see the thing taking place now. It would take tremendous coordination at rather great speed at this point.
