I'm also not a big fan of MVSG.

I've been a member at Miamisburg Sportsmen's Club for a few years and couldn't be happier.

http://www.miamisburgsportsmensclub.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Great facilities - 100 yd rimfire range, 50 centerfire range, 100 centerfire range, 200 centerfire range, several outdoor pistol bays (with some fun steel), 50 ft indoor range for handguns and rimfire rifles. A lot of activities - Appleseeds once a month, IPSC shooting every week, smallbore, trap on Wednesdays, etc.

It's a private club with a cap on membership. I'm out there fairly often and it's very rare if there's anybody else, which leaves me free to train how I want - shooting on the move, etc.

Dues are extremely reasonable and you come and go as you please.

Sounds BEAUTIFUL! I rhink I have been to their website before and was interested, but shied away when I saw the "members only" and "limited membership" stuff. i don't think I'm quite ready to try to weasel myself into a club just yet, but it sounds great some time in the future, when I have more time and money to spend on shooting. Thanks for the info!

My friend is a member there. Getting in seemed to take about 3 months. Gotta be sponsored, learn the secret handshake, etc

Nah, nothing like that. Show up at a membership meeting 2nd Wed of the month at 8:00, introduce yourself, if you don't know anyone, someone will offer to sponsor, then at the next meeting you're voted in as a full member. No secret handshakes.

Oops. Sorry. I had the wrong place. He's a member at Miamisburg Sportsman's Club.

Hey scriz, I reread the whole thread and I'm not sure which location you went to. Vandaila or Springfield? This thread dose not mention that. For those that don't know MVSG bought the Lauhorner location in Springfield just off of 70.

I am in Springfield right now and am thinking about checking them out and see what they have done with the place. They didn't open till noon today or I would have been there already.

Went to the Springfield location last week. BARE BONES. They had not yet received their FFL so the showroom has very minimal gear for sale. One guy shooting in one of the ranges. But the place was clean!

You can keep your $11 a day to shoot outside. If I want to shoot outside I'll go to Spring Valley from here on out. Its only $25 a year.

This is exactly what I do now. I used to shoot almost exclusively at Spring Valley. Now that I got a membership to VRA I go there most of the time but if I want to shoot shotguns or just want to shoot outside I head down to Spring Valley.

The last time, notice the word LAST, was horrific. It was the one quite a few roads off 75 just north of the gun show exit.

My wife and daughter and I had gone up many times before, we did like the 11 dollars outdoor deal and it gave us the opportunity to shoot various toys while there.

The last time we went, we walked in and started to type our names in for the labels and the guy comes up and says that we HAD to watch that "safety" video before we could shoot. I asked when that started because we had been there several times and never been instructed to watch some video. He said, "it's always been required", with kind of an attitude. I said I had never heard of it and also made some mention about me being an instructor that teaches ccw classes at various locations and had never heard of anyone else doing that. The guy goes off..."if I had a dime for each time someone told me they were an instructor I'd be rich" and continues to go down that tirade. Upon producing my NRA instructors identification card...the guy shut up and told us that we could proceed without watching the video.

At first I kind of ignored it, but then thought ok I understand his safety goal, but obviously it wasn't the first time we had been there but he didn't pay any attention to that. I don't think many first timers know the system and walk in an start printing off name labels...but he obviously missed that clue too.

When we got out on the range, a couple of the RSO's know me, and I asked them what was up with the guy and they just stated that he has an attitude and has gotten several complaints. I thought geez....I'm betting this guy doesn't represent the company well to new people coming for the first time...and how does that reflect on the club...probably not good. Both Rso's agreed and laughed. They watched my daughter and wife shoot and even commented on how good of a shot they were, of course I took credit...LOL, and we went on and enjoyed the rest of our day, but I won't be back.

Thankfully I've been able to secure a membership at a private club closer to home. We used to go there after going to a gun show in Dayton, or making a family day of it at the range, but thankfully we don't have to deal with that kind of stuff anymore. Heck even Target world fired their guy that was the daytime guy who was usually kind of nasty...guess they figured out that a little customer service and a smile helps out, but I don't MV has figured that out yet. Again I won't visit there again nor recommend it.
