As far as the Illinois State Trooper, the saying goes, Ignorance is no excuse for the law.
I'm sure if you had a machine gun and was a resident of Republik of
Illinois that trooper would sure as hell Bust you for possesion of an assault weapon or a machine gun. What Trooper does not know the law? GEESSHH! In Any State?
Most of the time the State Police Association has a lot with making up the laws of the State. Especially Illinois. With the bans on firearms going on around Chicago you think the State Piolice would not know the laws when they stop a vehicle load of contraband weapons? Think Again!
The Trooper thought that he was above the law and got caught.
The fine was probably for a machinegun conficated at a bust and he decided to keep it for himeself

His machine gun was from a conversion, not a confiscated gun.
He violated Federal Tax law, not state firearms laws.
He made no effort to hide; he thought he was legal and so the others in his troop, including his super.
The truth is he did no evil.
He will suffer for no good reason.
The idea that somehow he should suffer because we would if in the same position is more of the insanity that brought us stupid gun laws in the first place.
If one innocent person suffers, why, well, let's make ALL the innocents suffer.
What a sick concept.

Yes it is sad that there are so many laws, that even the people who are employed to enforce the laws don't even know them. That is a major problem in this country the laws are not enforced, so then they write more laws that make no sense. For example the hate crime law,if I attack you and do bodily harm that is assualt, but if I do the same thing but call you a name, or you are off a different race, or sexual orientation then it's a hate crime making it more severe.Assault is assault, enforce the law! Don't write new ones to make people feel good.Minors that get tried as adults, minors are minors don't change the rules as you go along or don't write laws that you can't follow.3 strikes your out, well if you commit 3 felonies and the laws and sentences were followed you would be at least 30 years old before that came into effect, seeing you would be 18 for the first felony, and got your 5 years then got out and commited another got tried and sentenced within a year, only to get out and do it again.Shadow wrote:His machine gun was from a conversion, not a confiscated gun.
