I had a conversation with a guy from the OSHP at a career fair in Athens. He actually bought up the topic of ankle holsters. He told me that if your pant leg was pulled up it would be considered plain sight.

I know the above doesn't really help. It just highlights the stupidity of the law. You *might* get away with an ankle holster, but it's going to depend on the officer who pulls you over. I personally think you would be pushing your luck.

LEO's just don't get it, they don't write the laws, and what they say is not binding in any way. I understand they were thrown into this by the legislature but the sooner "plain sight" goes away the happier I will be. but STILL how many LEO won't get the word on THAT right away ?? I mean we still hear on the boards about sworn LEO that do not know CHL is legal.

I disagree. I think that the only power in nailing those complying as if they're not is given to them by us by way of our fear. Hell, even if you were to very astutely state that you're licensed and carrying and when asked where, indicate in a similar tone, you'll have nothing to worry about as your confidence that you are in the right will show. If they begin to complain, then you can just as assuredly speak that your gun is in plain sight and maybe even ask him why he seems eager to tarnish the record of a law abiding citizen. Most of them are as uncertain as we are which is why if it can be seen, NOBODY should be worrying. The fact that we keep it in plain sight, notify the LEO, etc should show that in compliance with the AG's requirements, we are well versed in the laws governing the responsibility we've taken on. The worst thing we could do is hand it to them by fearing that which we shouldn't.

I've actually been on the receiving end of this scenario.

Years ago I was driving east through Montana on US10 in my current auto.

I caught up with two semis each pulling a low boy with two 5"/38 naval gun mounts, one pointing forward over the tracter and the other facing backward and down.

Trust me when I tell you it is VERY intimidating to follow a vehicle that has a 5" gun barrel pointing directly into your windshield! Even if the muzzle does have a rain plug in it.

Needless to say I passed them as soon as I could.
