The forums have been hosted for some time now out of my pocket. We are coming up on the annual domain renewal for ohioccwforums.org and I pay roughly $20/month to keep the forums online. I do this to maintain the long-standing history of discussions here indexed in Google, and so that people have a place to discuss this topic outside of modern social media censorship. Wrong, Law Enforcement Officers in Ohio can carry any type of weapon concealed or open (including switchblades, knifes of any length, etc...) as long as it is authorized to do so by their department.
I would say that roughly, about half of my fellow officers carry some kind of edge weapon, and about a quarter of them carry some type of switchblade or spring assisted knife. We are not trained to use knifes as a weapon, but are authorized to carry just about any kind of knife (including switchblades) to use as a tool in the line of work (cutting off flexi-cuffs, seatbelt straps, etc...).
I have seen mil switchblades, they were blaze orange in color, and about the size of an original boy scout knife, my thoughts were they might be of use to airmen to cut chute risers if they were hanging from them in a tree. There was one called a "paratroopers" knife or such that the blade slid straight out when a button was pushed.
I did some digging a while back and found something about ohio that said the one armed people could have one with a 3" blade, but that was it.
Interstate commerce in them is really where they concentrate on busting people, they are for sale at most gunshows, some shows frown on them, but not most of them.
I do not own any, but I have a friend who is obsessed with them, and that is where I got my info was talking to a few guys he knows at gunshows. The one guy has sold thousands of them no problems, he went into MI once and got in a bind with LEO but otherwise no problems.
I forgot to take my knife out of my pocket once before court. I sheepishly handed it to the deputy before going through the metal detector. He began playing with it (Kershaw Scallion, assisted opening). I explained that it wasn't a switchblade and that he was pushing on the back of the blade to open it. The assistant prosecutor gave it back to me after court, as the deputy was gone. He just thought it was neat, I guess.

I did that once in Ashland with my Ken Onion Kershaw. The bailiff just said he would hand on to it till after court. He returned it later no questions asked except that's a nice solid tool, where'd you find it.
We must carry arms because we value our lives and those of our loved ones, because we will not be dealt with by force or threat of force, and do not live at the pleasure and discretion of the lawless."

ORC 2923.20(A) No person shall:
(3) Manufacture, possess for sale, sell, or furnish to any person other than a law enforcement agency for authorized use in police work, any brass knuckles, cestus, billy, blackjack, sandbag, switchblade knife, springblade knife, gravity knife, or similar weapon;
Note that a switchblade would likely be considered a deadly weapon, making it illegal to carry it in a school safety zone (ORC 2923.122(A)&(B)). Stay away from field trips!

Friend of mine years ago had one left over from his AF days. The spring-opening blade was a hooked blade with the inside edge sharpened - for exactly the purpose you described. Not very practical for much of anything but its intended purpose, but it was kinda cool.
I've looked at getting an auto knife for a long time. Problem is I'm not willing to: a) buy some cheap Paki piece of crap, or; b) spend the necessary duckies to get a quality piece by Boker, MOD, MicroTech or other decent maker. *Sigh* Oh well - perhaps some day the urge, opportunity and money will intersect...
Total repeal of ALL firearms/weapons laws at the local, state and federal levels. Period. Wipe the slate clean.

Chief, I picked up a nice assisted open Boker Magnum (their less expensive line) with a tanto point on a semi serrated blade, brand new for $35 at a gun show a year or so ago.

Yeah - I'd have probably popped for that. Always seems when I happen to be in the right place it's the wrong time - "Ayup, sold the last one 'bout 15 minutes ago. C'mon back by tomorrow I'll have some more..."

As noted, it only seems to be sale that is prohibited, not possession. But you'll fall under "concealing a deadly weapon" unless you wear it on a belt; i.e., a switchblade is not an ordinary pocket knife (which can be concealed legally).
FWIW, I've seen them sold at Trader's World, so I wonder how much the "selling" law is enforced.
Switchblades are sold at just about every gun show I go to. I have only seen one knife dealer put up a sign that said he would only sell them to LEO or military.
This is the Leatherman I carry on my belt. I can open the belt case and use my thumb in the huge notch in the blade to open the main blade in one action, meaning I can pull the knife and open the blade with one hand in under two seconds...
