Mike, even if you can't get a ticket, you are still welcome at the party. The ticket gets you food, it also enters you in drawing for prizes -- but the camaraderie, hearing the different guests speak and learning more about the history and direction of this organization comes free if you simply show up.
I like to swap brass... and I'm looking for .32 H&R Mag, .327 Fed Mag, .380 Auto and 10mm. If you have some and would like to swap for something else, send me a note!

Good food, good friends, and free guns. Does it get any better than that?

Re: 9th Annual Party In The Park 8-11-2012
Here's my short review...
Overall I thought the event was really nice. It was pretty easy to get to. My preference would be right up next to a major interstate and maybe some better signage in the park to which shelter it was at, but overall it was fine. FYI...I just looked for the first person with a gun after driving around and followed them. I would either be going to the OFCC event or some kid's birthday party with a dad that carries.
I thought the layout of the events was good for the day. No complaints there and lunch was promptly served at 11:30. One complaint, where was Diet Coke? Water was fine, but I'm sure others would have drank diet products as well. Seemed Sprite/Coke limited it greatly.
The first gentleman that spoke that talked about personal responsibility was superb. Invite him back every year and sign him up for President. Of course, he'd never get elected in this country, but I can dream right? As for the rest, I feel a slight education session before hand is needed. If I had to hear CCW permit one more time I was going to jump up and correct every one of them every time I heard it. I think more speakers would have been nice but I guess about three failed to show? Are requests sent out to all pro-gun elected officials? I'm guessing by their schedule just many can't attend or don't reply.
Prizes? What can I say, I can only complain cause I didn't win anything. I demand a recount.
j/k
I don't think anything should be taken away. I do feel a little more could be added but right now not sure what. I will say it would be nice to have some update on what OFCC is doing and any changes they are planning. And I'm not talking legal updates or anything, I'm talking the organization as a whole. I hate to say it this way, but seems OFCC is in a "lame duck" session itself. I do hope that quite a bit offered their services in some way and hopefully Jeff let's me know where I can help out (I've offered three times now.)
I look forward to next year if I'm off and one day making it to a Fun & Gun if I'm off work.

Your kudos are for Cliff Rosenberger. He was great and I wish we had more like him in the legislature. I was pretty miffed about some of the no-shows, since I had confirmed the speakers this past week and all had said they were coming. We had some internal problems with various coordinators having last minute conflicts arise, including our general counsel, Derek, and Gary Witt (Mr. Magoo) who were scheduled to speak on the law and legislative activities. Jeff gave a brief summary, but it was brief. Right now, nothing is happening legislatively and nothing can be expected to happen until after the election is over.JediSkipdogg wrote:Here's my short review...

Blame me for the lack of diet drinks. It never even crossed my mind and that error will not be repeated. I was running six ways to Sunday this week and getting the drinks was something that I just did while in between other things. Mea culpa.

Re: 9th Annual Party In The Park 8-11-2012
I can say, without a doubt, that in my personal opinion, the guy running for Frankiln County Sheriff against Zach Scott, is bumbling idiot.
I asked the Form 4 question for a reason.... Zach Scott adopted his predescessor's policy on this, and is currently not signing them. We have, however, discussed it with him a few time, and he is willing to have a formal sit down about it.
The guy speaking at PITP, while he did state that he would sign them, has no clue of the process whatsoever. He is very backward on how it works. Also, he made it very clear that it gives him suspects if something happens. Now.... Any of us that have half of a brain, obviously know it could be used for that. As much as it is an easier, cheaper tool to get the toys we want, it is also a tool to allow the Sheriff to know who has what in his county. to think otherwise would be foolish. It's not what he said that bothers me, it's how he said it, and how he was trying to stumble his way thorugh it to show support. He really made himself look terrible.

Re: 9th Annual Party In The Park 8-11-2012
There was a whole table of us looking at each other and laughing at some of things he was saying. He seems to be a good guy and I believe he agrees with the idea that we -- the folks who go through all the different processes to remain legal are NOT the folks he's got to worry about, but he was adamant and repetitive about the fact that he had hoped everyone who wanted or owned a suppressor or a full-auto came to him because then he would know where they are, which was really all he wanted. He came off as if we were the subjects and he was the King and that he was a good King and that we would live freely... just so long as he was able to keep his master of list of who we are, where we lived, what we had, etc etc.
He mentioned that he had retired after a long police career and was now hoping to be elected Sheriff of Franklin County. I suppose I just wasn't feeling mean-spirited enough to ask him if this was his best attempt at double-dipping.
Two things I'd love to see at the annual PITP-- one would be a meet & greet spot for folks who are active on the forums. The name tags are better than nothing, but there were apparently a number of folks I spend lots of time swapping posts with that I never bumped in to. And perhaps to further that thought, maybe more of a plug for the forums. I know that not everyone is an internet junkie -- but it does seem like this organization has two distinct groups within it... those who are active in the org and those who are active on the forums and in listening to Jeff Garvis, it seemed more than obvious that there isn't much crossover there.
The other thing would be a little area for a swap-meet. Gun folks always have something to swap or sell and while the Liberty Park folks would probably upchuck their bacon & eggs if we had a big gun flea market going on, I think it'd be a blast if we had some goodies being swapped and/or sold at this event.

Re: 9th Annual Party In The Park 8-11-2012
FlyinCedar, my thoughts exactly on him. I was surprised he wants to open the certificate hours more however I should has pushed him and asked why not 24 hours a day? I know smaller counties it may be harder to, but large counties (Hamilton, Montgomery, Franklin, Cuyahoga, etc) have the staff there 24/7 that can do the fingerprints and photo. It's nothing they aren't doing at 3:00 am for criminals.
Sevens, good idea on the M&G and Swap Meet.
I also thought OFCC should bring some stuff to sell and maybe even sell memberships there. I was actually really surprised OFCC didn't use it to make any money for themselves by selling shirts, stickers, etc. I'm guessing stuff like shirts may be hard because OFCC probably doesn't stock any of those and they are all made to order through the website, but books (didn't Morne write one?), mugs, bumper stickers, etc I think could be easy to sell. I know I would have probably picked up something. Maybe even discount the annual membership by $5 for those that came to the event. No reason Jeff can't walk home with a wad of cash that day to use for future events.

Got to see some old friends, got to meet some new friends, got to put some on-line names with their faces, got to bring two new people to the OFCC family.
