Pulled over today for first time while carrying.

I was pulled over today for speeding while carrying. The LEO was pretty cool about it. I did have one little snag with informing as required by law. The LEO started talking to me before he even got close to my car, when he reached my window I handed him my DL and CHL while he was still talking. He obviously didn't run my plates before walking up to my car because he looked supprised when he realized he was holding my CHL. When he asked me if I had the weapon in the car I said yes, locked in the glove box. He then asked me why I didn't offer that information before he had to ask. I just told him that I didn't have a chance to say anything because he was talking to me. Anyway, he checked to make sure the glove box was locked and went back to his car to write me a ticket for speeding. His buddy, still standing by my car asked me what kind of gun I had, and a few other gun related questions, overall being kind of nice. He did tell me next time I get pulled over to let them know first thing, even if I have to talk over them to tell them. Well, the other guy got out of his cruiser and had me sign the ticket and I was on my way. No problems for the most part, other than a ticket....Oh well, I knew I was speeding. I have no idea why that particular road is posted at 25 mph.

b4 I finished reading I was thinking "well you should have still interrupted him and informed"

whats worse? Catching a cop on a bad day and you interrupt him but follow the law to the letter?

Or catching a cop on a bad day, You don't interrupt him because you're 2 polite, but he gets all [expletive deleted -- TR] because instead of you telling him verbally, he realizes hes holding your CHL after the fact...

The 2 times I was approached, both times I had to interrupt with "Officer I need to inform you...." and both times it was very appreciated.

On another note, isn't it a settling, somewhat gratifying feeling the first time? Well it is when it all works out well.

I live in Cleveland Heights. 25 MPH is the norm here, anything above that is probably state mandated. CH is one big speed trap.

My wife has told me that when she is driving to work (at 5 AM) they sometimes follow her. She drives with the cruise control on to avoid getting a ticket.

I wasn't really worried, but a bit nervous I guess. I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong, well, except for speeding. But, I'm glad it happened just to get that "first time" out of the way. I guess my next gun will just have to wait another month to make up for the money I have to spend paying this ticket...LOL

What PD was this?

Here is what I do when I am pulled over. As the LEO gets to my window I say "Officer before this goes any further, I have a Concealed Handgun License and I am armed (or unarmed)." If I am armed I continue and state where my sidearm is located. I have never been pulled over while armed though.

Anyone that doesn't IMMEDIATELY inform the officer should be charged with a felony.

Anyone that EVER interrupts a police officer should be pistol whipped into silence!

I have experienced Officer motor mouth myself, had to break in, I agree it "feels" kind of funny to have to do so, maybe we need an air horn to blow to make a break in their jabber so we can inform ??

Ok so you are saying to inform, then turning around and saying that if the officer is a motor mouth and interrupted, the voilator should be made to be quiet? [Edited for language -- TR]

I feel that if I was the officer I would rather be interrupted so I am aware then go on and on and never give the violator a chance.

I assume he was being sarcastic. Sarcasm is something that isn't nearly as easily recognized in print as in person.

Similar situation the one time I was pulled over--Had to interrupt. In that case, I'll interrupt, first telling him I have a CHL, then telling him that I have my handgun with me. If he doesn't stop talking, I'll keep talking anyway until I've legally notified him. Obeying the law in front of a police officer has a higher priority than being polite.

I disagree completely. This is contextual sarcasm and I can prove it. Try making that post MORE opposite than what it should be. Your stumpedness is testament that it HAS to be sarcasm.

Then there's also character context. Shadow is generaly very concise and purist in his posts. He's also been seen posting in complete opposites on at least one other occassion. From this, I feel I can trust such a backwards statement to be sarcasm.

you want the dash cam audio to pick up the fact that you informed the officer
