"Beep, beep!" I was going 120 in my Cadillac when the little Nash Rambler passed me like I was standing still. The man looked at me and asked, "How do I get this thing out of 2nd gear!" :)

He must be SO OLD that his memory is just a memory...

Now we're doing a hundred and twenty, as fast as I could go.
The Rambler pulled alongside of me as if we were going slow.
The fellow rolled his window down and yelled for me to hear:
"Hey, buddy, how can I get this car out of second gear???!!!"

Yes, I do believe in open carry. An openly armed man is clear in his intentions. Concealed carriers are sneaks and skulkers and elitist, boot licking, political contribution making, running dog lackies of The Man. <wink> (thx grumpycoconut - OpenCarry.org)

You're right. I just pulled out my 8-Track tape and listened to it. I didn't think I had the exact lyrics, but at least got the gist of the song down for those who remembered it.

I think we've successfully hijacked this thread. At least civl conversation is occuring. :)

Giving away my age....

I had three Ramblers. A '63 "Classic", and a '67 and '73 Ambassador....

All three were inexpensive and relatively reliable.

My late father-in-law talked me into a Ford in 1977 and that's where I've been ever since (guess the Town Cars count).

(Two big Fords and two Town Cars. The wife made me buy her a Pinto in 1975 and has been driving Ford or Mercury cars ever since. The Pinto was a solid car if you really try to find something nice to say about it. The others were/are OK.)

The first Rambler, btw, had rather a bit more engine than needed, and a three speed manual transmission with overdrive. Superb gas mileage at 90MPH (legal, if not sane, in NV in those days). The other two were AM's version of a luxury car - factory air in days when it was a little rare and small 8-cylinder engines. Nothing exciting.... 'Bout the time AM stopped making them I'd bought the first Ford. Not looking back....

However, all three Ramblers had a quirk in their front end design where there was a "pocket" on each side of the engine compartment that was roughly the right size to store a shotgun. You could also see where another model's interior bracing had been used with different skin. The '63's trunk and hood were essentially the same sheet metal too....

It's said that AM lost money on every car they made. The Big Three kept them in business to keep the anti-trust folks off their backs. The Japanese importers started making big bucks and there was no further need....

Regards,
Stu.

Nope....

A Matador (besides the guy in the bull ring) is a full-sized Rambler of the Ambassador persuasion with somewhat cheaper trim.

If you ever watched "Adam-12" the Ramblers they used were Matadors.

("Ambassador", "Matador", "Classic" was the sequence.)

I like Fords....

YPD just bought a bunch of Impalas. Could get interesting. The new "Chevy Center" downtown got that started. They're used to the larger CVPI. Nothing good is likely to come of this....
