CHL Holder Charged in Ashland Co.
I do not know the details, but here is what was printed...
**************
From the Ashland Times-Gazette, April 29,2006.
"A grand jury returned three indictments Friday, two of them secret.
In the sole open indictment, Michael L. Doss, 24, of Chesapeake was charged with two counts of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, and one count of having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
A Loudenville police officer approached Doss April 20 after he allegedly saw Doss vomiting out his car window. The officer allegedly found a loaded
9mm handgun under the seat.
Doss has a concealed carry permit. However, according to Prosecutor Ramona Frances-Rogers, the gun must be kept in plain sight or stored in a locked glove compartment or container.
The second improper handling charge stems from Doss allegedly being intoxicated while in possession of the gun."
*********************
The stupidity involved here almost requires no comment.
But what I find interesting is that this went to a Grand Jury. Sounds like they were going for felony charges, but all they got were misdomeanors.

I'm guessing this is the same incident cited in Real Man of Genius... in the Lounge. This makes it a bit more interesting. Wonder what else we're only getting bits'n'pieces of... ???

OK, so maybe he's a bonehead. Still. Let's see. I drove to a bar to meet some friends. Or whatever. Left the gun in the car 'cause I know it's not allowed inside. Somebody buys "just one beer" and we know how that sometimes goes. Hours later I go out to my car. Not to drive anywhere, but to sleep it off. But now I've broken all kinds of laws?!?! I dunno. Don't seem quite right in my little pea-brain...

If he had it in a locked case (in plain sight) or a locked glovebox, he'd only have the puking from the driver's seat thing to contend with. Now he's got much more. What's up with these people? "Let me see...where do I put my gun...the visor? Or under the seat?" Alcohol messes with rational thinking, that's for sure.NavyChief wrote:OK, so maybe he's a bonehead. Still. Let's see. yeah, but they shouild have been doing their thinkin' before their drinkin'...
at least this way, unless they get really good lawyers, they will lose their priveledge....
at the very least if they get good lawyers, they should learn a valuable/expensive lesson...

Last night I went to a party. The plan was to stop by and pick up my brother/sister in law then go. I really wanted to show my bro/in-law my new gun. But before I left..."common sense" told me I better leave it at home. Now I wasn't planing on drinking, but I knew others were going to. Nothing happened and I did feel better knowing I wasn't carrying just because of alcohol being present. I dont know what would/could happen if I was the only one not drinking and got pulled over while carrying.
A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader. Samuel Adams

Possession of any gun in any circumstance should never be a felony unless it was used in committing a another crime.
Anything else is an infringement on the 2nd.
good point

Does that make the blue laws prohibiting liquor sales until after church is out (what else ends around 12 or 1 on Sunday) an infingement of the 1st? Do I have the right to be drunk in church (and if I do can someone please convince my wife it's OK)? Before you go off the deep end, remember that not all religions hold the sabbath on Sunday. Your friends who attend temple hold friday sundown to saturday sundown as holy. Of course the mosque-goers don't drink, so who cares about blue laws messing with them...Possession of any gun in any circumstance should never be a felony unless it was used in committing a another crime.

Last time I checked, the First Amendment said nothing about one's right to buy or consume alcohol. I am missing your analogy.
But, no, you shouldn't be drunk in church because you are interfering with the worshipers right to peaceably assemble. Your snoring would drown out the preacher. Sleep it off at home.

Now! Now! Now! According to some folks and some on Packing.org They can drink asd much as they want and still be able to control tghe vehicle. So that shouild not make it Illegal to haver in your possession a firearm.
And it should not be illegal to carry a firearm in the bar when you're just going to meet a friend or have JUST one beer!!!
"Bartender!! Another round for the Boys here!"

Americans need not fear the federal government because they enjoy the advantage of being armed, which you possess over the people of almost every other nation. . James Madison.
