Carjacking attempt

Post by OhioPaints »

Last Friday evening we were leaving Christ Hospital (Auburn Ave., Cincinnati) after I had a CT scan. As we drove out of the P3 garage, still in the hospital parking area, we experienced an attempted carjacking. Luckily he tried the rear door which remained locked. My wife kept moving and he pounded on the car and went for the car behind us where he tried all four doors!

My wife was driving and fgured out what was happening befre I did.

This was about 6:20 p.m. I wasn't released until 6 p.m. The area was relatively empty.

This really concerns me and makes me reconsider Christ Hospital.

Because of the CPZ, I was not armed. But it appened so fast and was (thankfully) over before I would have had an opportunity to draw if I had been carrying.

I did notify hospitalm security andm he said he would look for anything on their security cameras and he would make sure the "leadership team" was notified.

Glad all is okay. I'm not a fan of parking garages any time of day, and after dark I flat won't go in one. Even during the day I get my flashlight out for to/from the destination. It's usually 200 lumens or more. At that, I'm tempted to wave the light around while calling out "Yoo hoo, Mister Car Thief, come out in the light so we can get this over with!" But that sort of thing unsettles.friends and family.

Odds are the skulker was more interested in stealing stuff from unlocked vehicles, rather than the car itself, especially if the vehicles are unoccupied at the time. Very common in our urban hub areas.

But, you never know, even us "paranoid" people are right from time to time.

Brian, this was not in the garage, it was on the Mason St. exiting the garage halfway to Auburn Ave. IOW out of the garage building itself but in the middle of the parking complex.

Carmen, no gun in car, sometimes I have had one but I figure there is a high risk of "smash and grab." Besides, too slow to access one if needed.

My past philosphy has been "If I feel a place is dangerous enough to need a gun, I should not normally go there. A gun is for places I thought were safe."
I still feel that way, this is a place to avoid :-(

Ken, point taken . But, getting to and from that part of town cries out for having a gun along. It's a conundrum, you spin the wheel and take your chances in this world.

Christ Hospital covers such a big area with their parking, at times they have golf carts to transport people. But not always. And the drivers sure ain't armed.

Another scary part. He tried the rear door, which was locked. The front door was also locked BUT would have unlocked if he pulled on the handle because the key fob was close (required to start and drive the car!) (2014 Jeep)
