A few possible encounters....avoided, thankfully
One was at a golf course of all places. I have a few others from over the years, but they end up being very similar because I try to do pretty much the same thing when some nut starts charging at me.
Some time back I was reading a story about a guy who had called the club house on a group in front of them and a ranger had come out.
A man in the group in front broke a club shaft and attacked the guy who called for the ranger and drove the shaft into the victims artery in his leg.
So Im golfing a few week later and these folks in front of us have 13....THIRTEEN....people on the green.
they were holding up the course to bad that it looked to me like the next three holes were entirely empty because of how slow they were going.
Some of them are stoned, obviously drinking.
Rather than confront them, I called the club house to send a ranger out to tell them to speed up....especially given that one of them is literally a volunteer at that golf course and knows the rules.
Ranger comes out, tells them to stop horsing around and get going.
Ranger leaves and the volunteer grabs an iron and starts charging over demanding to know who called the ranger.
I DID. And you know the rules here.
He charges at me with the golf club (Im now having flashbacks of the story above, btw, lol), so I dropped my hand down over my concealed weapon taking a weaver stance and asked him in a loud voice..."ARE YOU INTENDING TO ASSAULT ME?" so everyone around could hear.
I saw him watching me drop my hand down and he stopped dead in his tracks, mumbled something and turned around.
turns out one of MY group members was a retired cop lol. He saw the whole thing. Says he thought it was all pretty funny, but definitely liked the way I handled it...let the guy know to back off so things didnt escalate without making any threats or exposing my weapon.
These people are INSANE out there, lol.
Going to assault someone with a deadly weapon instead of just admitting they were wrong and apologizing and moving along.

Man, that’s wild. Golf courses used to be the place you went to avoid chaos, not get into a standoff over pace of play. Thirteen people on the green? That’s not a group, that’s a wedding party.
You handled it exactly right—firm without escalation. A lot of folks these days don’t realize how close they are to serious consequences when they let emotions take over. Glad you kept your cool and deescalated just by being prepared and confident. That kind of presence makes a huge difference.
Honestly, it feels like basic courtesy and accountability are rare commodities out there. Stay sharp, stay safe.

COMMON COURTESY all too....uncommon these days.
I still say excuse me, walking between someone & the store shelves if they are looking at an item
That said...sorry, couldn't help it...conjures up 1990s memories of Beavis & ButHead "ARE YOU THREATENING ME?!!''
LoL

What's wrong with carrying there, Carmen? To some players a golf course is just a big outdoor space to get drunk in. Unlike a bar, no one cuts them off. Makes a certain amount of rudeness (or worse) almost an expected problem.carmen fovozzo wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 3:33 pm 13 players on the green ? So you CC while playing golf ? Really...
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

You and I see things a lot differently about carry, Carmen, at least in this instance. What's so inherently safe about being there as opposed to other places?
And, not that the following is a typical example, but let me tell you about the last time I was on a golf course. Five plus years back a friend (I'll call him Phil) had come out of a coma and needed a fundraiser to help with hospital bills. Big golf outing was organized, at a city of Cincinnati public course.
Phil's best friend is a sheriff's deputy, he invited friends from the LE community. One guy was a Cincinnati PD officer, (let's call him Sean) all of us knew him, and the fact he likes to pound some alcohol, on his own time at least.
By the FIFTH hole (appropriately) Sean had started to play around with his service weapon. By the eighth, he'd found a hillside to fire it into. Word got around what was happening, and some of us flat bolted.
Some of the other off duty cops got to Sean and convinced him to stow the gun not long before on-duty CPD units got there, which took the better part of an hour. Great to know, huh? I'm sure multiple lies were told back and forth among the thin blue line that day.
Now, if your takeaway from this is, "See, nobody should have a gun out on the course, even police!" you may be running a 105° fever this morning, Carmen.
