Cincinnati Following Columbus' Lead

Seems Cincinnati has seen the memo from Columbus.... they are preparing to pass some gun laws and apparently have already sued the state last week to have 9.68 declared unconstitutional (thought this had already been decided....)

The mayor of Cincinnati, Aftab Pureval, was interviewed briefly on the local news this evening.
He acknowledged that the state laws prohibited cities from passing laws in conflict with the state preemption law, but (sic) "we've gone over these pretty carefully and we're sure they'll pass."

Some of the laws, he said, were to give Cinci PD something with which to charge people. For instance, there's already laws on the books banning people with domestic violence crimes from owning, but those aren't Cincinnati laws.

Now, I thought preemption had been decided by the OSC... multiple times? The quote that really gets me, "Pureval expressed confidence that ultimately Justice Joe Deters and the Republican majority on the Ohio Supreme Court will come down on the side of local control."

I don't believe for a minute that Deters, or the OSC... is going to reverse their prior decisions on 9.68.

As I stated elsewhere today, Ohio Revised Code 9.68 still has no enforcement teeth. Toothless as a meth head from (fill in the blank with your own choice of location). Ohio cities will continue to pull these shenanigans until they can be punished for it.

For the new members, using ORC 124.34 whereas a public official or employee does something dead wrong or even mildly inappropriate. Then, this is charged by....now, be careful who is the victim and charging filer...ANYONE including thy neighbor. Charges are submitted to the State Personnel Board of Review and/or Employees Review Board (SERB)...
