Having concealed carry in MD is possibly saving lives

Post by M-Quigley »

The guy allegedly attacked not just his Gf but threatened to attack someone whom she ran up to as the guy was walking his dog. Although the shooter was released, it's completely up in the air how this will eventually turn out. It doesn't say that the attacker was armed, but it leaves out a lot of info in the incident that could justify a self defense claim.

While the race of the alleged attacker or the shooter shouldn't be an issue, the sad fact is in today's climate someone might bring it up (like a member of the deceased's family, special interest groups, etc) if the shooter is not also black. :( I've been to the BLM website in the past and any non black civilian who shoots a black person and alleges self defense was automatically labeled a "vigilante" before any investigation of the facts.
A Washington, D.C., firefighter assaulted his girlfriend before being shot and killed during a confrontation with an armed man walking his dog, according to authorities.

Carl Braxton, 30, was fatally shot before 3:30 a.m. Monday in Bryans Road, Maryland, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said that upon their initial investigation, they discovered that Braxton was reported for assaulting his girlfriend in their townhouse. The woman fled the home and flagged a man who was walking his dog near their home, the sheriff’s office said.

Braxton also left the home and approached the unidentified man and made threats against him, witnesses told police.

The firefighter "continued walking aggressively toward the man," prompting the man to pull out his legally permitted gun and shoot Braxton, according to authorities.

Braxton was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. Authorities said they are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

The armed man stayed at the scene until authorities arrived. He was taken to a local police department and released, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

There's also this.
Maryland self defense and firearms trainer Ryan Gass is among the hundreds who have flooded social media with comments and questions.

"Both sides are highly interested to see what actually happened here," Gass said.

Gass noted Maryland is experiencing a tsunami of new applications to carry concealed guns in the wake of a June 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision in the New York Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. According to state police, 115,860 concealed carry permits have been issued in Maryland since the decision.

"This is going to be something I think that is growing in Maryland," Gass said. "In the past, you didn't see this happen too often, because Marylanders and visitors were denied their right to keep and bear arms. But post-Bruen that has now changed."

Gass said gun permit holders are now intensely interested in learning specific facts about what happened when Braxton was shot and whether or not the incident will be judged as justifiable self defense by Charles County investigators and prosecutors.

The shooter in this case has not been charged and is cooperating with the investigation according to the sheriff’s department. The man, who has not been named publicly, was released while an investigation continues.

The Charles County State's Attorney is being consulted, the sheriff's department said.
