Best AK-47 for under $1500

Post by Tropicalcats »

I am looking for the best bang for my buck in an AK-47 under say $1500. I looked at so many and have read countless articles on the subject but still haven’t found a the one.
Forged or stamped, Chrome barrel, mount for optics, American Made, imported, new or certified used. So many questions and still searching for answers.
Give me your thoughts.

The best bang for your buck would be PSA. (Palmetto State Armory) Great variety & quality seems very good.

I have a PSA G5 and admittedly I have not shot it yet so I can't speak to that. But I can say from looking and handling it the fit and finish seems really good. I have this one: https://palmettostatearmory.com/psak-47 ... black.html

Those seem to be very fine AK's.

If you want to go on the AK deep dive, the Talking Lead podcast has done some AK Korner episodes, talking about all things AK.. Might just be too much info though and cause more 'Analysis Paralysis' .. Still they bring in importers, AK Builders, trainers, guys from the AK Faktory 47 in Poland, some Russians, really more than I ever wanted to know about AK's, AK Parts kits, AK Assembly, AK Variants, Trench art, etc.. etc..

https://www.talkinglead.com/page/6/?s=ak+korner

Make sure to start at the beginning AK Corner ep 1 and work up to the current episodes

https://www.talkinglead.com/2018/08/15/ ... omponents/
https://www.talkinglead.com/2018/09/16/ ... allistics/
https://www.talkinglead.com/2018/10/16/ ... az-sniper/
https://www.talkinglead.com/2018/11/15/ ... -dynamics/
https://www.talkinglead.com/2018/12/14/ ... an-keeney/
etc...

And after all that, one of the PSA AK's is probably in my future due to budget, as it will just be a low use, fun rifle for me.

I have been happy with my Century c39v2. I know older models had issues but they solved the heat treating in later models. The gun has a milled receiver, great trigger, very accurate, and just a nice looking gun. I have not had any issues with it.
