Given the higher cost of utilizing Co over Cr, their pricing don't seem too "over the top," and I think (accurately or not) that their use of "triple hard" Cr denotes the presence of more of the appropriate hardening impurities. One of my Arsenal machined underfolder AKS-47s had previously been considered for plating, but I ultimately decided against it due to the (minimal) danger of damage that H2 embrittlement entailed. I appreciate the responses as well because they supported my worries and made me more confident in my choice. Would you mind describing the difference in relative hardness between cold-rolled 70/30 cartridge brass and low carbon steel while we're "talking shop"?
