Remember that time in 2016 when we thought the Hearing Protection Act was possible because POTUS + House + Senate was in some GOP column? It would have helped de-regulate suppressors.

After a recent --clearly not a false flag #Merica!-- shooting where only one of the two handguns was outfitted with a suppressor, we have the Help Empower Americans to Respond (HEAR) Act. My understanding is that it has been introduced in both chambers...and then there's this little nugget:
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), who is cosponsoring Menendez's bill, insists there is no legitimate reason to own a suppressor. "The only people who could reasonably oppose a ban on gun silencers are criminals trying to avoid detection by law enforcement or mass murderers trying to hurt as many people as possible," he says. "Whether a firearm is being used in a mugging or a massacre, the sound of a gunshot is a warning that helps bystanders get to safety and allows law enforcement to track and apprehend the shooter."

Americans legally own about 1.5 million suppressors, which means they live in one of the 42 states where the devices are legal, have paid a $200 transfer tax, and have passed a federal background check that typically takes eight to 10 months.
That sounds like slander or libel or something not positive, Senator Dickey!
I don't even own one, but damn if I'm just as opposed to banning "silencers"!
At least we're moving up to metal inanimate object bans!

Once again ^^^ they camouflage their intentions, anti-2A, with some type of positive/confusing title.

I remember a memo put out in the mid 90s about STGs, one STG used their initials to feign normal activities. Once they were called on it they said, ''Oh no this is a growth & development organization''...

President Donald Trump is exploring ways to use regulatory power and executive action to curb gun violence after a pair of deadly shootings over the weekend — a move driven by his aides’ belief that Congress is incapable of coalescing around consensus legislation in a heated 2020 election cycle.

White House officials on Monday said Trump and U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr are “resolved” to take action after the shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. The administration is exploring solutions “that actually make an impact,” as opposed to “things that feel good,” one Trump aide said.

Trump has increasingly relied on his executive authority to address issues that have stained his administration, including the gun violence epidemic. Ten months after a teen gunman killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., last year, the Trump administration issued a rule — at the president’s request — to ban the sale and possession of devices known as bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic firearms to simulate automatic weapons. The National Rifle Association opposed the rule, arguing at the time that bans have rarely “worked on anything.”
Oh, yeah....let's vote for THIS in 2020!

I have been a huge supporter of President Trump. However, it's now absolutely clear to me that Trump has got to go! He has betrayed his oath of office to "protect and defend the constitution", In fact, he is presiding over the destruction of both the 1st and 2nd Amendments to the Constitution.

I never thought I would live to see the widespread censorship that we are seeing today. I also never dreamed that I would live to see an inanimate piece of plastic (bump stock) defined as a machine gun. That alone is an existential threat to the 2nd Amendment as every future President will be able to ban any firearm or accessory by simply redefining them as a machine gun.

I think our only hope at this point is to hold the Senate to act as a counter to the next Democratic President (likely a socialist).

What a sorry state our country is in!

Methinks Trump is getting too much advice from pollsters and political advisors.

Much has been made of the fact that the Trump base is heavily populated by "gun owners". It has become clear to me that the term "gun owners" is overly broad. There are "gun owners" AKA fudds and then there are "GUN OWNERS". Many "gun owners" have been indoctrinated to believe that only the "reasonable and responsible" elite are worthy of enjoying second amendment rights and that they will decide what is "reasonable and responsible". I believe that most politicians, including Trump, are listening to too many "gun owners" and not enough "GUN OWNERS".

From a purely numerical perspective, when there seems to be far more of the former why wouldn't they? It's true that the latter is good at making a lot of noise on the Internet but is that it? Do they deliver substantially more votes?

For example, universal background checks consistently poll in the >75%+ range. Yes, it goes up and down a bit based on who does the polling and how the question is asked but it can't be denied that UBCs are looked upon very favorably by the public. Anecdotally I probably know, in person, over a dozen red blooded Americans who own firearms. Based on conversations over the years I'd say well over two thirds of them have no problem with UBCs, unconditionally. Another two are three are OK with them provided there's exemptions for family, CHLs, etc. Only one guy is totally against it. As far as I know they all vote. If you're a politician who are you going to try to please the most?

In a statement, the NRA defended Trump.

“Donald Trump is the most pro-Second Amendment president in recent American history. From nominating Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, to removing the United States from the United Nations gun ban treaty, President Trump has stood strong for the rights of law-abiding gun owners," the group said.

Josh Blackman, a South Texas College of Law professor, said that although expanded background checks “could make a lot of people criminals,” he doubts Trump’s cumulative gun record will meaningfully sway voters.

Robert Spitzer, a professor at SUNY Cortland and author of five books on gun policy, said while “some of the extremist gun people may be unhappy with Trump ... where else are they going to go?”

At this point, Spitzer said, "I do not believe they represent anything like a real movement of gun people to either stay home or desert Trump."
Doesn't this all shed new light on Gorsuch and Kav?

Yes, indeed, Trump voter, having been sold out by the WWE HoF, 2A Champion, whatchagannado?

I, and millions of others like me, refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils. Trump has shown himself to have betrayed us and therefore I will not vote for him. Hopefully, some members of the GOP Congress will do the right thing and earn our vote.

Previous GOP traitors like Mitt Romney and John McCain have paid the price for betraying us. Trump is next.

I honestly don't know if the country can be saved at this point. Hopefully, a patriot will step forward.

Ditto, the NRA. They've gotta go and need to be replaced with a real guns rights organization, like GOA.

Based upon what Trump, McConnell, DeWine and others have said, there's no such thing as "lesser of two evils". Both parties have shown their hand. Now the question is, what are each of us going to do about it?

Donald Trump won the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin in 2016 by fewer than 80,000 votes. Which makes one wonder: Will pro-gun Democrats in rural areas return to their usual voting habits — voting for Democrats — if there’s little difference between candidates on gun control?

For the most part, Democrat politicians have been the recipients of pro-gun voters’ wrath. But if you think that support for gun control only stings anti-gun liberals, you would be mistaken.

Similarly, in 2016, Republican New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte lost by roughly a thousand votes. But it was her gun control betrayal that cost Ayotte greatly with key gun rights leaders and gun owners in the state.

As a result, she lost by 1,017 votes.

It only takes a small percentage of the base to stay home. Or to say, “I’m voting for a Third Party.” Either decision will have disastrous consequences for Republicans like Ayotte who support gun control.

So, will history now repeat itself? (RELATED: The Facts Are In, And Doctors Are More Likely To Kill You Than A Gun)

Two years ago, Trump promised gun owners that the “Assault on the Second Amendment has come to a crashing end.”

But now he has done an about face and could drag the GOP down to an electoral disaster if they pursue the course they are currently embarking upon.

If there is anything that the history of gun control teaches us, it is that politicians should not spit in the faces of 75,000,000 gun owners.

Republicans should take note: Don’t destroy your base at the behest of your opponents, expecting that your worst enemies will vote for you. It never works.
Goodnight, Gracie.

Trump has focused on guns extensively since the shootings, calling lawmakers and surveying aides about what he should do — outreach that began Sunday evening. White House officials say there has been a series of meetings on a response, convened by acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, including a session Tuesday morning. The president has discussed with aides the idea of a Rose Garden bill-signing ceremony for gun-control legislation, a notion that seems premature to many in the West Wing.

Trump also asked lawyers about what he could enact through an executive order, officials said.
Gonna stick it directly in our eye!

During his Thursday night “Keep America Great” rally in New Hampshire, President Donald Trump commented on violent crime, saying, “It’s not the gun that pulls the trigger.”

SNIP

He differentiated between the mentally ill and law-abiding gun owners, saying, “We can’t make it harder for good, solid, law-abiding citizens to protect themselves. We will always uphold the right to self-defense, and we will always uphold the Second Amendment. We will.”
The man knows how to campaign/lie!
