Freedom Munitions

Post by dl1911 »

Has anyone used this manufacturer? Thinking of ordering some .223 from them but wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. Prices look good. Would be looking at 60gr and heaver.

I've used a bit of their 9mm, both new and reman. About 2K of the former - of which my failure rate actually was about double that of what I see with other popular factory, albeit new, ammo. Even so, it was well less than 1%. I bought their remans when ammo price was higher, and even with the FTF(ires), I easily still came out ahead. I'm currently working on finishing up my third case of new-production 9x19, and I have another case ready for this season. So far, my new FM 9mms have been near flawless, but then again, that's a pretty small sample size (which, of-course, also extends to their reman).

I seem to remember a recall on their .223 remans in May of this year, and some further chatter on the Forums about their .223 remans at that time, but I have not personally used any of their .223 or 5.56, new or reman.

I've bought a few thousand rounds of 9mm (new & reman) from them over the last couple of years (waiting for another 1k to show up next week!). No issues, and I can't recall any bad rounds either.

I'm a big fan.

I've only been buying pistol ammo from them.
I usually wait for a shipping sale.
I've got no complaints at all with there reman target ammo and new personal protection ammo.
Unless it's been snapped up they have Mexican made 22lr in stock. ~ $99 shipped/1000 rounds.

I've only purchased new 9mm from them and I've never had an issue. Shoots clean, looks clean, excellent pricing.

Just about 5000 rounds of re manufactured 9mm for me over the past few years. They seem to be consistently cheap and I've only had 3 bad rounds, they were all in a row and seated too far into the brass. I didn't try to shoot them. Definitely recommend based on my experience. Freedom also pays you for spent brass if you're a person who hates to leave valuable casings on the range.

I have 1K of reman 115gr RN 9mm on the way ($190), gets delivered next Friday. They had a good sale and free shipping last week. if you count my time I can't hardly reload for that cheap. I've bought some reman 9mm and .45 from them before and haven't had any bad rounds. All the ammo I bought from them seems consistent in power and was clean burning. I've never bought rifle ammo from them. I just use their stuff for plinking and will stick with better known defensive rounds.

If memory serves me correctly, I read about someone having a higher than normal fail to fire rate on some FM ammo, and FM recalled the whole lot and sent new ammo. So if I'm remembering correctly, and it was them, it would seem their customer service is top notch.

I've used it exstensively for range and training: 45, 9, 223.

No problems and no KB's.

I had issues with loose primer pockets on Freedom reman 223, supposedly a know problem and they replaced promptly. Had same problem with replacement reman ammo which was again replace this time with new. My problems were all with reman 223 in a JP rifle.

I've been using their reman 45ACP for a few years. Went through about 1500 rounds myself and my roommate went through about the same in 45+9. I had zero issues. My roommate had a squib load last month. I will continue to use their product. Good stuff for a good price.
Good luck and stand fast, true Patriots.

Their 115 gr 9mm (NEW) has had a history of being light loaded. It had issues cycling my short barreled M&P Shield on occasion (1/10 rounds)

There have been a couple other discussions on this board about Freedom Munitions that you might find useful:

SOME folks will hate the opinion I intend to drop. Sorry... heh. Or not. Whatever. If you have an inkling that you might be one of those folks...
STOP READING NOW!

I haven't bought a single round of Freedom Munitions. However, they are the partner or sister company (not 100% sure of the business relationship...?) of a company that I spend a CRAPTON of money with, Xtreme bullets. Xtreme makes a very good bullet for a fair price and I have quite literally bought and shot many tens of thousands of them. My last order from them was 420 pounds of slugs.

I tend to keep tabs on threads discussing Freedom Munitions and the reason I do so is because I have many friends and acquaintances who genuinely ask me for advice and opinions and I like to be able to help where I can with solid information. As such, when the Freedom Munitions discussions get started, I read them. And most of them go like this one has. A few folks who say "good prices and mine have all worked" and such... and then occasionally you will find a poster in the thread (or the author of the thread) who has experienced PROBLEMS.

I have seen enough PROBLEMS that I can't recommend Freedom Munitions as being a proper value. I mean to say that saving some money isn't worth it to me if there is risk associated with the product. (yes... there shall always be risk, but you need to gauge the level of risk... argue at will)

The issues that I have seen with Freedom are some squib loads (low powder or no powder) and perhaps more worrisome are loads with poor case-mouth tension or bullet pull (where the slug pushes itself deeper in to the cartridge case) but one of the more obnoxious Freedom Munitions failures I saw earlier this year was the box of 9mm ammo where one of the 50 rounds was the same 115gr bullet stuffed in to a piece of .380 ACP brass and packaged with all the 9mm. (***We can have a side discussion of these three completely different FAILURES and what they do or can do, and why they are a waving red flag)

Some of you know that I spend a lot of time in the Handloading discussion area of this site and that is simply the view that i have -- a view from someone who knows what happens (and what can happen) when the firing pin hits the primer.

Factory re-man is always going to be factory re-man. Re-man means "re-manufactured" and the only difference between what Freedom Munitions is selling and what I am building is that they have a license and they sell their stuff and they produce it at a much higher rate and they are in the business of profiting from the venture.

Black Hills is the only re-man company that I know of that I would "recommend" to a fellow shooter. I am certain that plenty of re-man companies have come and gone and produced a decent, solid product. But every one of those companies has had to balance production rate with quality.

If people that I know and/or care about ask my opinion on Freedom Munitions, I simply tell them that Blazer Brass, Win White Box, American Eagle, Aguila, PMC, even S&B and others are all a better bet than Freedom Munitions. Another "better bet" is to consider handloading. As a hobby, I cannot even accurately describe how much joy it has brought to me and it is not difficult to learn and do properly.

If you shop well, you can purchase 9mm ammo for about $11 a box out the door, tax included, when buying in case volume. I think my 9mm ammo using the Xtreme plated 124 bullet ends up being about $5.50 per 50rd box and I know that my ammo will out-run Freedom in any way we would measure it.

Bottom line? Be offended if it pleases you-- I have never shot Freedom Munitions ammo. I have no plans to do so, I also will not recommend it to anyone.
I like to swap brass... and I'm looking for .32 H&R Mag, .327 Fed Mag, .380 Auto and 10mm. If you have some and would like to swap for something else, send me a note!
