l'll keep carrying my Colt 1911 loaded with Federal 230 gr Hydra Shok. Might over penetrate a bit (according to this article at least) but it functions flawlessly and the 1911 puts the rounds where they are supposed to when I do my part. And it is just fun to shoot.

Their results are pretty consistent with the results I found when researching self-defense ammo a while back. Penetration in the Clear Ballistics gel seems to be a bit deeper than the standard FBI calibrated gelatin, but not by much - and it may be due to the firearms they used (my research focused mainly on results from 3" 9mm and 3.3-3.5" .45 barrels, Lucky Gunner's tests were with slightly longer barrels).
