C&R Dealers online any good one

Hello everyone


Im looking to purchase a C&R firearm for CCW i have my eyes on a romanian torakev but i am still open to any other options such as the p-64 since that seems to be the new item flooding the markets which one is better? or any suggestions would be appreciated.

on a side note when buying old weapons whats the best way to ensure teh firearm is fully functional?

Often C&R surplus weapons are old iron curtain technology, obsolete in today's world, in caliber and in ammo availability/options/ballistics, safety features, reliability, user support, ergonomics, sights, etc. They are good as gun relics, fun toys to shoot, interesting in their crude communist way, and collecter interests.

Given today's abundance of 9mm choices, that are all at competitive prices, I would choose a late model (under 20 year old) 9mm for CCW. Even in the non-C&R market, there are plenty of police trade-ins choices at reasonable pricing that will outperform the weapons you are mentioning. If you want to save money, CZ/Sig/Beretta/1911 are cloned by many excellent gun makers in Turkey, and Phillipines.

The only way to know if any used weapon is functional is to either have a gunsmith check it out first (or yourself if you are knowlegdgable), but ultimately to own it and shoot it. Many C&R weapons are a crap-shoot, long distance, sight unseen deal. Just like the many import mil-surp weapons that we can get here (AKs, SKS, etc) it is very likely that the gun will function alright. Reliability, and sources for service after discovering issues is a problem with C&R-- but that should be understood with C&R deals.

Althoug a great gun, you don't want to carry a TT-33 CCW. The original design didn't have a safety of any sort, and the added safety to meet import regulations is not very well engineered.

If you do, at least get a Polish one. Very well made and the only one with a half decent safety.

Great in what sense?

The TT33 is very harsh and loud, and the recoil, concussion, and fireball is not for the timid. You have to look to make sure your hand is still intact. I have a Romanian TT33. The magazine became jammed within 100 rounds- literally stuck and had to be forcefully pried out. Afterwards, I discovered that the trigger group housing had bent inward thus wedging the mag . Bent it back and mag goes in and out fine. Not a robust design for high volume shooting.

It fires a superloaded high velocity round that is a necked case, that seems to only be available in RN-FMJ, mil surplus, berdan primed. Every round I fired, the brass was split down the side. Not confidence inspiring. EVERY ROUND, I'm told this is perfectly normal.

Oh, some pistol ranges do not allow bottle necked ammo...

Mine was a Polish TT, and it was a beauty. Accurate, fully dependable with any ammo, and fun...that little missle is a great hoot at, say, 100 yard steel plate, stepping out at over 1600 fps. I landed it in the days after the Chinese TT imports and before the Romanian imports hit. Alas. I can't keep everything.

You bought a Romanian one, none of which seem to appear to be in the same league with the Polish ones.

Yeah, I thought mine was too. It looks good too on the surface, nice and tight, and feels cool and fine when not firing real rounds.

I must admit, I've never taken a Polish one apart.

I'll stick to my XXXX for CCW.

BTW, I just sent in my ATF renewal application +$30 for my C&R, which stands for Collectors and Relics

And I never had issues with split cases either.

The Polish TT vs Romanian TT is like comparing a Mitsubshi Evo with a base level Mirage, IMHO
