This is where you can talk about all equipment issues; firearms, ammunition, magazines, care & repair, holsters, gun cases, etc.

The dealer must get ATF permission to acquire the item from the person who currently holds it. If the item isn't already registered with the ATF they won't allow the dealer to take possession.* Then of course they'll start asking questions. It's too late to register the item on a Form 1 (application to make a firearm) so that's out. Others mentioned amnesties ... I don't think there have been any other than the one in November/December of 1968.

In all honesty the best option would probably be to start queuing for the next gun buy back offering some token item of value. Bypass the loonies who set up shop across the street offering top dollar for your item - they can't help you this time ;)

* In practice this will never happen because every NFA dealer I know will want to see the seller's paperwork before even starting the transfer process.
Us loonies have seen title II weapons at the buy back and do the right thing and tell the people to turn them in.
